Good Morning from a bright and sunny San Francisco Bay Area, and welcome to the latest releases from John Jenkins for October. These releases will be available in October.

Later this month, if all goes to plan we will have a further announcement with the new releases for November. So lots more to come.

So a short announcement this month, but one that may catch you by surprise. But there is my personal favorite, a release for the Raid on St Francis.

We hope that you participate in John’s Caption Contest, this is #8. We are running a little late on this so if you have not entered now is a great time to do so. John Jenkins Caption Contest

Hope you enjoy the new releases.

THE PENINSULAR WAR 1807-1814
Portugal were Britains oldest allies, and no Peninsular war series would be complete without a Portuguese Regiment. Most historians define “Wellington’s Army” as a British force, but usually one third to a half were actually Portuguese.

The 21st Regiment played a part in most of the major battles of the Peninsular War, and was originally raised in Valenza in February 1664. The facings were yellow with yellow collars and cuffs as well as yellow piping and turnbacks.

Portuguese infantry Regiments normally consisted of two battalions. The exception being the 21st which consisted of only the one battalion. The Portuguese battalions were made up of 5 centre companies , a grenadier and a light company. The normal strength was 770 which included all ranks.

PLA? That's quite a departure. Perhaps an appeal to the Chinese market.

PLA Women....hopefully John did some market research as I don't think they will be popular outside of China.
The Portuguese standing firing are appealing for fellow Napoleonic collectors but the closed feet standing position seems awkward.
Maybe this is a close order drill position but for those of us who have fired rifles it seems that legs spread apart give more balance.
The Indian looks great and hopefully more will come soon.

I seriously doubt John would have invested time and material to the PLA without having done research into the market it is aimed at, which as Brad says, would be China. I would think the PLA is of very limited appeal elsewhere, but the built in market in China is huge. The new Brit mechanics are excellent and the Indian is superb. -- Al

Beautiful figure. No one does Woodland Indians as well as John J. - Just outstanding!

K & C did a small PLA series for the handover of Hong Kong in the late 90s. I assume that may have done well because of its limited purpose but this seems a little different.

this month...

I think I will get the one Indian...

and 48 of the marching Cadets...

that will make a nice grouping of 4 wide and 12 deep...^&confuse

They will make great dates for those Civil War marines. That line was a surprise as well. Not my cup of tea but an interesting choice.

I'm sure that John has done his research, and with an increasing middle class in China with disposable income, this could be a very good market for him, as well as western tourism visiting the country.

I had heard that he was venturing into the mainland theme, but I thought it could have been more on the line of K&C with SoOHK or Imperial China.

We shall see .....

Is the PLA range just the two figures at this stage? If so, it might be just dipping a toe in the water to get a sense of what demand there might be.

The mechanics are indeed a good addition to the KoTS.

I agree. That closed leg stance on the Portuguese looks really uncomfortable. I like the other pose though.

The Indian is fantastic.

I like the marching girls but who doesn't?^&grin.
I could never explain that diversion from Napoleonic soldiers to my wife. so no sale for me.

I'm still waiting for the British artillery gunner standing holding his ears. That prototype seems to have been on the bench for a long time.
