NEW RELEASES FOR OCTOBER 2024
THE ANCIENTS

ARMIES AND ENEMIES OF GREECE AND MACEDONIA
MACEDONIAN HYPASPISTS

The Macedonian Hypaspists were positioned on the flank of the Phalangites phalanx.
Their own flanks were protected by light infantry and cavalry.
Their job was to guard the flanks of the large and unwieldy pike phalanx. The armoured phalangites with their sarissas were not particularly agile or able to turn quickly, so hypaspists were positioned to prevent and protect attacks on the vulnerable sides of the phalanx formation.
Their role was vital to the success of the Macedonian tactics because the phalanx was all but invulnerable from the front, and with its layers of iron spikes moving in unison, were used as the anvil in their hammer and anvil tactics. The Companion cavalry was the hammer that smashed the enemy against the anvil of thousands of iron spikes.

The Hypaspists protected the vulnerable phalanx flank, and were able to conduct maneuvers and use tactics, which owing to their hoplite panoply of weapons, would have been impossible to be performed by the phalangites.

Hi Jason. We have Nicanor and the 4 poses of the Argyraspides (Silver Shields) shown in the March 25, 2024 Update to look forward to. Then. . . I would like to see some lights like Mac archers or slingers and even some Agrianian javelins. . . and Prodromoi light cavalry. And I would think an Alexander figure with Companions just has to be part of the plan ;)

Bests,
Chris

That would be great if all of those figures are produced But you never know with John how complete he will make the range and how long it will take I have the First Legion Companion Cavalry and Alexander figure which are well done. I have the First Legion Macedonian phalanx and they are not as good as John's in my opinion.

Oh yes Chris, you are on top of this, great spotting. I would be in on slingers, archers. Light skirmishers and all. Everything except Alexander as i have an awesome St Petersberg Alexander. I am sure John could do an awesome one but may as well save where i can.
This was my phalanax last Christmas. I packed them up butwould love toredo with my hypastis and my thracian cavalry. I got very one of the releases
