Good morning from Chilly California, where we are pleased to bring you the latest Jenkins releases. You are in for a surprise this month. I have been waiting for a new series to be announced, and he wouldn’t tell me what it was, so I was very surprised this morning, I think you will be as well. So here is a little Mini Series to get your teeth into.

Plus we have more great additions for Monongahela, Plains of Abraham, Jacobites, Sudan and the Collectors Club. Not bad for a Thursday Morning.

We should have the new releases up on the web site www.sierratoysoldier.com later this morning.

As always hope you like the new releases as much as I do.

Best regards

Mike

THE CONDOR LEGION
THE WEHRMACHT’S TRAINING GROUND

The Condor Legion was the expeditionary force of soldiers and airmen sent by Hitler to aid Franco’s Nationalists in the Spanish Civil War.
The Germans used the war as an opportunity to develop equipment and tactics, and their force included not only instructors, but also combat units of artillery, aircraft, and tanks.
These units tested guns, planes and tanks, and perfected techniques that were used in the 1940 Blitzkreig.
Many of the officers prominent in the early campaigns of WW2 won their first successes in Spain.

In October 1936, 2 German ships arrived in Spain loaded with a Panzer 1 Company, and all the services and personnel to establish Franco’s army’s first armoured unit. The so called PANZER-GRUPPE DROHNE.
Oberstleutnant Willhelm Ritter Von Thoma was to command the contingent

COND-01 THE CONDOR LEGION
PzKpfw 1A
(2pcs)
NOT LIMITED
Retail us$138

Two versions of the Panzerkampfwagen 1 were shipped to Spain, the A and B.
The design was pioneered by Krupp in the early 1930’s.
The PzKpfw 1 A had a two man crew, and was armed with two 7.92mm MG13s.
Battle experience in the SCW indicated that the Pzkpfw had several weaknesses. Its 0.5inch armour offered little protection against even the smallest anti-tank guns possessed by the Republicans. Its weapons were also far to lightweight to take on enemy tanks and the vehicle lacked the endurance to participate in prolonged action, often leaving the 2 man crew working in its cramped condition quickly exhausted.

These invaluable practical lessons added impetus to new tank designs, although the Pzkpfw 1 itself continued to see service in Poland and France during 1939 and 1940.

Figures will be sold separately, and will be usable with several different models.

15% of the initial production run, will contain Pzkpfw1 A with numbers “423”
These will be distributed randomly. There is no indication as to which number is in the box.

Tank Model Weight 153g
SCALE 1/30
MODEL DIMENSIONS approx 2 3/4” x 5 1/4” x 2 1/2”
MATERIALS Mixed Media, includes Polystone, resin and metal

This is a new Mini Series, which will concentrate mainly on the equipment used by the Condor Legion in the Spanish Civil War.
There will be more pieces available to see at the upcoming Chicago show.

THE FIRST SUDAN WAR 1884-1885
BRITISH NAVAL BRIGADE

The Naval Brigade was a generic term used to define a body of Seamen, and Royal Marines, drawn from their ships and landed for active service under the orders of an army commander. Numbers were immaterial and it did not relate to an army Brigade. Often it would not even be of battalion strength.
Generally the armament of the Naval Brigade was made up of what was available from the parent ships, from where the Brigade was drawn.
The Gatling gun or its variants was the main weapon of the Naval Brigade in Egypt and the Sudan.

BRITISH NAVAL BRIGADE
GATLING GUN CREW (3pcs)
NOT Limited Edition

Please note, this set does not include Gun
The original Gatling gun was a field weapon, which used multiple rotating barrels turned by a hand crank, and firing loose (no links or belt) metal cartridge ammunition using a gravity feed system from a hopper. The Gatling gun's innovation lay neither in the rotating mechanism, nor the use of multiple barrels to limit overheating ,rather, the innovation was the gravity feed reloading mechanism, which allowed unskilled operators to achieve a relatively high rate of fire of 200 rounds per minute.

Captain Henry Pringle was one of two volunteer officers from the 27th Regiment of foot, who accompanied the Rangers on the snowshoes scout. He was to survive the battle and his journals provide a vivid account of his retreat and capture.
In the general confusion of the retreat Captain Pringle was left behind, he managed to avoid capture but became lost for six days , before surrendering to the French at Fort Carillon.
Pringle was later to reach the rank of Major-General in the British army.

Ensign Andrew Ross, was Scottish volunteer from the 42nd Black Watch Regiment. He had been recommended to Rogers in January 10th 1758 for the rank of Ensign in a new company of Rangers, which was commanded by William Stark.
During the march northwards, it was reported that Ross led a flank guard covering the west flank of the main party.
He was to die during the battle on Snowshoes.

"clinkety clank clunk"...the the power of the dark side is strong...hehehe...

John...if you're reading this...good luck on your new endeavor...please don't forget us...

still lots of new goodies for me...

great stuff as always...

WOW!!! John's new series choice has caught me completely by surprise. While the tanks look great and are very finely detailed, the historic period leaves me cold. Not exactly the ''FRANCO-PRUSSIAN'' series I was hoping to see.;) Should be big with the WWII collector looking for something new and different.

The Condor Legion, who would have thunk it! Really nice releases and further behind I fall. That Mk.1 is a tempting piece, as the whole Spanish CW is. Another must have Jacobite addition and a Gatling gun, too. Must print even more money. -- Al

Now that is a shocker. I wonder what the reaction will be from the legion of WWII collectors? A good choice for John since it hasn't really been covered.

The Condor Legion? Now, that's an interesting turn. I used to live in Spain and have always had an interest in the Spanish Civil War. Having not read anything for at least ten or 15 years, I'm now reading Antony Beevor's book (recommended).

I might just buy it but what I would really like to see is troops from both sides: the Republicans (the government forces) and the Nationalists (the rebels, the Francoist forces).

As far as I know and I haven't researched this extensively, the only figures from the SCW are Del Prado and there are just a couple.

Mike Miller, if you're talking to John could you ask him about that. If he's going to do the SCW, then I'm in.

Brad...I would be happy to mention it in the next email...my pleasure...

The Gatling/Crew is another must-have for me as is the additional set of Gordon Highlanders. I have also started collecting the new "RETURN TO MONONGAHELA" series so the two Frenchies will also be very welcome.

Love the tank, this one has certainly shocked a few people. Will need a good look at it in London.

Andy

Oh my GOD!!! If that Condor Legion Panzer Ia is as nice in person as it is in the photos, with the hinged hatch and incredible track detail, John has just leapfrogged Figarti, Honour Bound and First Legion right to the front of the line on armored vehicle production!:cool::cool::cool:

I already pre-ordered mine, plus the Gatling Gun, Gordons and British Standard bearer from Culloden. Great month of releases!

The Condor Legion, who would have thunk it!
Well definitely not me;) And to be frank, I prefer my John Jenkins figures to be pre 1914!
Great looking tank, just not my area of interest! Awfully light though for being made of Polystone, resin and metal (153g = 0,3lb), but then again I suppose the PzKpfw 1 is considered a light tank:p

As I don't collect the Sudan War, I am only getting the Quebec/Monongahela French Marines and the Jacobite Rebellion British Ensign - both really nice looking sets! But that's great, as it leaves me spare money to fill the ranks of my 1812 set-up :)

Brad...I would be happy to mention it in the next email...my pleasure...

Mike,

Thank you. I'll commit to the range if I know that he's covering the whole Spanish Civil War, one of the more fascinating conflicts of the last couple of hundred years (at least to me) and in some ways more passionate than ours.

Wonder how this range would do in Spain.

Brad...I'm like you too...while this series is not for me...I like to know the commitment of the range before I jump in...

It will be interesting to see how far into the SCW JJD goes. Could JJD be the next to jump into the aircraft industry? There are many interesting aircraft that were used in the air over Spain. Always liked the airwar but know much less about the ground war in Spain. It is an unusual and fascinating choice to manufacture. -- Al

Think this would sell:

The Spanish Civil War as a "mini-series" will have some appeal to WWII collectors. A few vehicles and infantry from both adveraries would make a nice diorama. Unless the Spanish collectors are "turned on" and numerous, however, I doubt commercial success.
I do give John a lot of credit for his imagination and adventurous spirit.

I would have preferred that he go back in time or continue with the 18th century.

Still a big fan! :):)

I'm not sure how much appeal it will have either but it did have the Germans, Italians, Russians and International Brigades (made up of many nationalities). You could have a lot of personality figures as well: anyone up for Hemingway or Tito? You could have Robert Capa's famous photo (although some claim it is faked of a legionnaire dying in action) as a mini dio.

Would Spanish people buy this? I think so but there is massive unemployment over in Spain right now so it's very difficult to say.

Now that is a shocker. I wonder what the reaction will be from the legion of WWII collectors? A good choice for John since it hasn't really been covered.

Well I am surprised and shocked. I thought Jenkins was pre-engine  The detail looks very good.

I think the series will have to stand on it's own. There were only a few pieces of armour in the theatre so it can't become a great big AFV/Aircraft series. But some nice precursers to WW2 AFVs and aircraft.

Terry
