Do you think that someone who spend £1200 on figures is worried about $/£ ratio?
That is aprox. what I get working hard in two months! Prices are what they are, you decide if something is worth or not. I mean, the number of sales in the U.K., for example, would be aprox. the same if price was £65 or £100 a figure.
Firstly I think you misread my post, the person was spending £1200 [that is approx $1500, one thousand five hundred dollars] on F Legion figures at the London show and buying in £ sterling and asked if there was a discount for spending over £1,000 and was told no. Due to the lack of retail outlets in the UK many people only buy at the London Toy Soldier shows, I myself spend around £500 per show, there are only about 4 to 6 decent shops in the UK selling a decent range of T Soldiers, none I know sell new F Legion. Therefore the only place to buy is online from the UK distributor or the UK distributor at the show. We are noticing a lot more non-UK visitors to the London show, possibly due to cheap EasyJet/Ryanair flights and the exchange rate now being good for those in the Eurozone.
I disagree with the comment number of sales would be the same no matter the price,
"the number of sales in the U.K., for example, would be aprox. the same if price was £65 or £100 a figure".
With the competition in the market the price [and quality] is important, I buy T Gunn Romans as they are cheaper and the quality is good, I think the quality of F Legion is a lot better but not good enough to spend close to double on the F Legion figures. As an example comparing the MARIUS MULE roman figures,
First Legion ROM175A or B - this is one of the best Roman figures I have ever seen but it is £80 from the one and only source in the UK.
T Gunn ROM053A or B - this is a great figure at £45, but as a 'good customer' according to the dealer I buy from I get them at £40 each [I buy 4 to 8 T Gunn figures from him a month].
Therefore I buy T Gunn and not F Legion, I would buy the F Legion Roman figure at £60 but not £80.
By the way when in Barcelona or Madrid I do visit shops that sell T Soldiers, not been there for around 12 months, but some nice shops and I think Soldat figures are good a well [have about 40 figures], the shops I remember were near Plaza Mayor in Madrid and another on Calle de la Princesa and in Barcelona a shop on Carrrer del Pelaiand, others I cannot remember where they are, most sell a lot of diecast cars as well and not forgetting a visit to the Montjuïc Castle. Which is worth a visit on it's own. Visited Seville and Granada but it was mostly shops that sold diecast cars and plastic kits, not forgetting the wonderful wooden ship kits, I was bought the HMS Victory wooden kit as a 40th birthday present and I am now 53 years old and round 25% through building it........... I have promised to finish it for my retirement in 2029.
I am looking forward to a visit to Badajoz in Sept, flight into Lisbon, visit the Napoleonic defensive sites above Lisbon and then a drive over the country to Badajoz to see the castle.
