Romans are the current rage!
Did K&C give any indication of how extensive this line will be?

They look fine....It will be a fight with TG.^&grin I wonder if they have the same size as TG or not...:p
KC didn't wish to make the romans, nor the pacific...But changed their mind. Maybe they' ll do the french foreign legion too?

Unfortunately I was not there, however it seems that we'll have an all new Roman Fort late in 2017.

My favourite style 'at rest' as I call it, for the start of this series. No doubt it will lend itself to multiples, oh no, there goes all my money for next year^&grin, Robin.

French Foreign Legion that would interest me

I have the honor of living in Hispalis (Hispania) as the ancient romans would call the present-day Seville (Spain):salute::

Although I collect only Romans now and welcome choice, I found it strange to see KC entering this sphere. You have TG's range which can't be bettered in terms of VFM or you have FL's premium range which can't be bettered in terms of detail and accuracy. Pitching between the two, as I suspect these will be, seems a bit odd, especially as this range also covers Imperial Rome. I could understand Republican a lot more but obviously it's not a goer.

But they have tied their Romans into the Life of Jesus range and also the Egyptian range so not strictly a new line. ?

Of course you must remember TG proudly announces it only makes 100 of each of their releases, so there is a big void for all those collectors in the world that wish to collect Roman's, especially a series that lends itself to multiples, which hopefully now K&C can satisfy this vast shortfall. Robin.

It seems that Romans are a "hot item" now and while FL and TG are hard acts to follow there could be enough potential for K&C to take market share.
As mentioned before TG has limited production and they are slow to release new poses, adversaries and cavalry. FL is more expensive and in terms of construction and style
many collectors prefer a more "robust" figure that can be handled and "played with"....that is an advantage for K&C. Of course FL quality is impressive but pricing for collectors who want
to do dioramas with multiples does come into consideration.....and K&C quality is always getting better.

If K&C prices are at least 20% below First Legion and they are committed to an extensive line of Imperial Romans (both fighting and relaxed poses along with a good assortment of adversaries, cavalry and perhaps artillery) they can be successful.
The sneak peek of the Roman fort looks good as a center piece and the four sculpts from Italy are very well done.
If Andy is serious about this range he should announce it soon along with brochures and photos of more sculpts.
He needs to whet the appetite of future collectors and give them pause before they commit to other makers.

Hi Guys,

Many thanks for your interest and comments on the few samples I previewed on the recent “Euro Trip” ...
IsandIwana” finds it “strange” to see K&C enter this sphere ... Not so, my friend, K&C have produced Romans and other “Ancients” for many years. Indeed our first Roman Legionaries appeared quite a few years before both FL and TG ever appeared on the scene. Back around 2005 we had another fairly extensive series of Romans (and Barbarians) plus our own 10 piece Roman Fort.
Currently we have Romans (albeit Auxiliaries) in our “Life of Jesus” and even “Ancient Egypt”. Now ... we’re going to do some more – Hardly “Johnny Come Lately” or “odd ” come to that.
As for being “serious” about this range as NY Soldiers suggests ... I’m serious about every range we produce – Otherwise I wouldn’t do it.

Best wishes and merry Christmas to one and all!
Andy

The thing with TG is that they are visibly seeing this range through. The red shield variants are NOT limited to 100 pieces, they are made so long as there is demand for them. I have recently restocked on a couple of their earlier 'red shield' variants.

i think potential buyers would want to know up front that this is going to be an extensive range and not something akin to the WW1 Middle East range that seemed to come and go in the blink of a cyclop's eye. I bought, I waited, I gave up, I sold.

I do concede that the fort is intriguing. I have the figures all ready and waiting.

Those new K&C Romans in the Offing look very authentic and very tempting to start collecting..^&cool Once they are painted they will look awesome^&grin. They are going to knock the socks off other good manufacturers making Romans{sm4} They have been pre-warned to raise their game or else! {eek3} Looking forward to seeing themin the flesh..

We all know that Andy and his company are "serious" about their business.
When we talk about being serious in relation to a range of figures we mean consistent, long term releases along with variety and depth. Perhaps not as committed as K&C is to WWII but on the level
of the ECW range, The Crusades and the Streets of Old Hong Kong. Obviously if the range doesn't sell well it will be discontinued, paused or limited but in order to attract customers we need some
clarity as to where this range could go. Will there be both action and relaxed (marching, camping, building) poses, will there be adversaries, artillery and camp equipment?
Are there numerous sculpts in the works? "Toy Soldier" collecting in today's market is not just for fun but an investment in a discretionary activity. Collectors want knowledge before they commit hundreds and thousands of dollars....not a cheap hobby!
The competition announces their intentions which undoubtedly attracts collectors who want to go "all in" before they choose a maker.
Specific to Romans, collectors have choices so if it is K&C's intention to take market share let us know where you stand.

Thanks Andy from a 30 year plus loyal collector of your products.

Hi Guys, hi NY Soldiers,

Thanks for your reply ... Without giving away too much, I am as serious about these new figures as I am about, as an example, “Pike & Musket”.

At this early stage I am not about to give away too many plans. Surely, a new 10 piece Roman Fort allows collectors to know that this is a range that has extensive “Legs”.

Best wishes and Merry Christmas!
Andy
