Someone on the other board is reporting that K&C has sold out to dealers already the new stug.
I can hardly believe that K&C would not give all it,s dealers an equel chance in obtaining one for it,s customers.
I pre ordered one from my dealer and am wondering if I,ll still get one if he was late in ordering?
Gary

The report, made by Brad, was actually that the item had been sold out to the dealers. The item has not yet been sold out by the dealers to collectors, as far as I know, so don't worry if you have already ordered from your dealer of choice.

I think (I hope) I had corrected what I said but Louis is right. Shannon had told me that she asked for 20 although she wasn't sure she was getting that much so if worse comes to worse, you can ask her.

Is it normal for an item to sell out that fast or is this just happening because it's limited, numbered (c of a) and a different box?

I've got this piece on order. I already have the original version but this looks just too tempting to pass up.
I hope there are more limited edition versions to come.

Ok...I cant hold my tounge any longer on this "limited" Stug! I'm going take a pass....cause I already have it! It is the exact same molding as the WS47 Stug just with a slightly different paint job and one different looking crew figure. I hope this is just Andy's "test" to see if there is a market for these "limited" editions, if so then good I hope it sells out and fast so he will do a proper limited piece. But a true limited piece would be something completely different...like say a DD Sherman or a Sherman with the Hedge cutter...now that would be a reason to buy! Just because it is limited to 500 and you get a certificate does not make it limited in my book...unless it is Andy sitting down and painting all 500. I will save my money for the DUKW! Let me be straight...I am in no way criticizing anyone who plans on buying this piece. You know me...if it adds to your collection and you love it...then go for it! I just do not see why I would shell out a premium for this paticular "limited" piece. All my best!

Brian, do you remember the Ambush Panther? Andy has done this before, and the item sold very well. I agree with you that a limited edition of a totally new vehicle, like a Sherman with a hedge cutter, would be even better, but getting Andy started on limited editions in any way is great.

Brian,

Another factor to keep in mind -- and I hate to bring this up -- but even if you think it's a terrible idea, when they're sold out, they'll probably do very well on the secondary market. That's not necessarily a reason to buy (it's not my reason for doing so) but I'm sure some will do it for that reason.

Louis and Brad.....I agree with both of your points. Louis I do not know but I know you will...was the Ambush Panther considered a "limited" piece? And did it sell at a premium? And as I said guys if this is just a test of the market then I'm all in cause I know that further down the line we will really see something special! :)

I'm still trying to visualize Andy sitting down painting 500 tanks. Man that would be a lot of work! I realize he doesn't do it himself but the image is stuck in my head!!
Njja

But that might be worth the $25 extra bucks you will shell out for this piece wouldnt it?

The Ambush Panther wasn't officially limited edition, but only 200 were made (making it more limited than this Stug). In the beginning, before Andy had confidence in the polystone stuff, he only did runs of 100 or 200 pieces at a time. Hence the winter stuff being limited to 100 usually.

As to the comments about Andy painting 500 tanks himself, how about 150 tanks. When the first 150 wood tanks were produced (50 each Tiger, Panther & Sherman) they arrived with just a very basic paint finish. Andy sat down with brushes, and painted the camo schemes, numbers and unit markings on all 150. Also, another time Andy went to one of the early Chicago Shows with nothing but various mounted Lancer figures (he did 16th Lancers, New South Wales Lancers and Khaki British [probably 21st] Lancers in 1984-1989), and just about every one arrived broken. Andy spent the days leading up to the show locked up in his room with glue and paint making repairs to hundreds of cavalry men and horses. There's some reality to flesh out your image of Andy hard at work.

I have 10-15 on order. I really hope I get them!

Heres a thought about the limited edition items.

I think Andy is testing the waters here. If the limited edition items are successful in the beginning then maybe we will see a specialty item instead of a repaint. If the limited series is not successful then our hope for specialty items may fade.

Our idea of a limited edition item is just that, a one-off. In todays collectible markets there is this thing for limited edition items. They sell out and the manufacturer comands a higher price. The collectors are satisfied with having a "limited edition piece".

I am all for the limited edition pieces and will be glad to help K&C get started in this direction even if it takes some repaints to get there. I hope that the final outcome will be the ultimate one-off.

Bill

I like the limited edition pieces also. I am very excited about the Stug since I missed the first version and the price is very low on the repaint.

I ordered mine yesterday and am looking forward to it, this time. I do already have the first version but figure if I decide to unload one in the future I loose nothing. In the long run, I too hope for a move toward specialty items in lieu of repaints. Not that I mind repaints as long as I have all versions to chose from up front. I dislike having purchased one set to find in the future a repainted better looking version now available. Thats fustrating.

Too true. However, I actually prefer the WS36 Hitler Jugend with panzerfaust to the later WS49 ambush set, and it looks better in an 'urban' diorama like Berlin that the heavily camoflaged WS49 figures. Generally speaking though the repaints have proven superior and this will probably hold true for the Stug IV.

I'm with you on the WS 36. I also like the fact that they're bigger than the WS49s.

Guilty.I ordered the Limited edition also.See how addicting this stuff is?Andy should be charged as a criminal for marketing these toy drugs.
I agree with both sides of the comments in this thread. For me I just like this piece and this particular tank from WWII history.I would take a Stug in a repaint over a King Tiger repaint any day.Unless it was done in the Winter white wash scheme.I would buy another King.(Hint, hint)I'm not sure if any of the board members collect Dragon 1/72 armour but they have literally created more paint schemes and releases than the whole German army did during the war.I'm King Tiger'd out from that company.

I'm Tiger'ed out from King & Country. Do you realize that they did three different wood Tigers, the first two available in two different paint schemes, followed by three polystone Tigers, the first in two paint schemes. That means you can own 5 wood versions and 4 polystone versions of the Tiger, and Andy has another Polystone Tiger in the works (his third Wittman Tiger!). Enough with the Tiger! It was a very impressive tank, but not very common on the battlefield. How about some more Panzer III's, Panzer IV's, and some specialty tanks like a flakpanzer or some open topped self-propelled guns?

I thought I heard Andy say (maybe at the Symposium) that he had a Wespe in the works. Maybe he can address that the next time he posts.
