I'm new to collecting, pulled by my interest in Napoleon and the Napoleonic wars. It appears--given my own first-hand survey and some of what I've read on the net--that Britains and King and the Country are in the upper echelon in terms of quality and verisimilitude. What other companies are highly regarded fro their quality and presentation?

At this point, I'm collecting for the sake of collecting itself, not constructing dioramas. Any rules or thumb or input would be great. Thanks.

Welcome Chasseur. There are many companies who do Napoleanics.First Legion and Collectors Showcase come to mind as do Alexander's Toy Soldiers.

Do not forget Little Legion.

If, as I am, you are interested in Napoleonic figures you simply owe it to yourself to try First Legion. Pictures are worth a thousand words so I would suggest you puruse the Napoleonic releases they have done on their home page, starting here

http://www.firstlegionltd.com/napeurope.aspx

The accuracy of their dimensions and the quality of their sculpting and painting is Russian level but at toy soldier prices. They are an excellent value and frankly the reason I started collecting Napoleonic figures.;) I have often suggested to folks new to their products that they should at least try one figure of their chosen period, in this case Napoleonic. I have also offerred to buy the British or French figures they didn't like. I haven't bought one that way yet.;)

There is a lot of choice out there depending on budget, preference of matte or glossy, metal or plastic and then there are the flats.

There is a lot to see regarding Napoleonics on the form. I would suggest browsing through and then maybe asking the owners their thoughts. We are a very helpful bunch :)

Welcome aboard.

Welcome aboard.

I'm not helpful! Ask anyone! But I give 2 bonus points to Chasseur for using "verisimilitude"!

Definitely worth having a look at some of the member albums and the Napoleonics and Diorama threads to see if there are any particular figures you like. There are lots of good ones mentioned here below, although the two that you come with knowledge of already are both, in my opinion, also excellent. Lots of folks here are loyal to specific manufacturers...but hey, it's ok to love them all! :)
