The War in Russia is now raging. The toy soldiers of the second edition ‘Waterloo’ toy soldier army are locked in combat against the plastic movie toys in high streets and the web throughout Russia.
It’s a difficult fight. Reinforcement in the form of a new Borodino based toy soldier army has been delayed, without resupply, history bears witness, armies on campaign in Russia can meet with disaster!
But my papersoldiers are a very felxible force, veterans of asymmetric real pretend war with an imperious foe units of Walkerloo Borodino Print-Fantry are now made available across the world from 'The Wargames Vault'. As PDF’s for instant download and DIY construction paper soldiers are entering the affray.

Last weekend The Russain heavy cavalry of the Chevalier-Garde assited by the boldest Akhtyrsky Hussars charged down the internet to printers throughout the world. Supported by musketeers Grenadiers and heavy Artillery units it’s hoped they can make a real difference in the real pretend War.
hmmm Business too abstract? It is when a product 'feels' good but doesn’t show profit. With surealist parameters the product can be judged on feelings alone and prosper through adversity and adventure!!
All the original paintings for the Borodino Army can be bought. They were painted on A3 sheets (11.7 x 16.5 Inchs). Usually two figures per sheet, apart from the Russian Cavalry paintings who all appear individually (I blame their hats). The first ten sheets will sell for 200 euro’s each and can be chosen from the collection by the interested buyer. Mail me for details if you would like one. After that prices may change. I use gouache paint, a medium proven to hold its colour over centuries - although always susceptible to water, on display, it must be framed for protection. It is painted onto a fine artist quality smooth white A3 Bristol board. Each began as a pencil sketch from the photo’s of me pretending to be a soldier in the garden. The Paintings only reach their intended composition when they are being played with as toy soldiers. As such, the separate paintings, are abstracted - and can be seen as abstract paintings. They include sketches smudges and notes made during their creation. Painting ‘just soldiers’ for ‘toy soldiers’ allowed me to paint only soldiers. No need for grass and farms and sky and more horses - I do like to paint landscapes but only when I’m outside before a real one (the intensity of ‘actual’ nature can sustain it’s own narrative during the painting) but painting fields in the studio can’t compete with the exciting escapist drama I enjoy whilst making an expressive soldier painting!

Don’t forget although now difficult to aquire from US stockists my original Walkerloo figures are available at my website - Christmas day battle action is their speciality - it was why I originally made them for my nephew !
More details of the war are on my Blog. And Happy Holidays!!
