Nicholas Winton, a Briton who said nothing for a half-century about his role in organizing the escape of 669 mostly Jewish children from Czechoslovakia on the eve of World War II, a righteous deed like those of Oskar Schindler and Raoul Wallenberg, died on Wednesday in Maidenhead, England. He was 106.

See full article here.

Mr. Winton was a reluctant hero, often compared to Schindler, the ethnic German who saved 1,200 Jews by employing them in his enamelware and munitions factories in Poland and Czechoslovakia, and to Wallenberg, the Swedish businessman and diplomat who used illegal passports and legation hideaways to save tens of thousands of Jews in Nazi-occupied Hungary.

Rest in Peace.

Brad,

Thank you so much for providing the link to this wonderful story and a great man.

Very difficult to read the article without shedding tears.

To think he did what he did and didn't ask for or seek thanks.

Regards
Mark

He was a very humble and modest man.

The numbers of children he saved was remarkable.

This short video (1 min 40 sec) from one of the light entertainment programmes in the UK - That's Life - aired in 1988 and really brings home what he did I think.

He was an incredible humble man. I first learned of him last year in a piece on 60 Minutes, a U.S. show that does extended news pieces. Thanks for posting that clip Gazza. Very moving. If that doesn't move you, nothing will.
