I have been in email contact with two Danish collectors, Per Finsted and Niels Blangsted-Jensen, for several years. Both collect Hiriart toy soldiers, in addition to other manufacturers. On our July vacation to Scandinavia, I had the opportunity to meet them in person. Per picked Jean and I up on July 7th at the Copenhagen Marriott and drove us to Niels' house less than half-hour north of the capital. Niels and his wife, Annette, were kind enough to provide a delightful wine, cheese, bread, and meat supper. I also hand delivered four Hiriart sets.

The first photo show Niels' charming thatched roof house. The second shows (left to right) Per, Annette, and Niels. The third includes my wife, Jean, joining them at the dinning table. Niels, who served in the Danish military, as did Per, gave me a Danish Guards Hussar toy soldier, as a gift, which he had painted. The fourth photo shows a photo of him in his hussar uniform next to the figure he painted.

Niels collects classic, glossy 54mm toy soldiers from Britains, Hiriart, Kingcast, Soldiers Soldiers, Steadfast, and Tradition, among others. The first four photos show various display cabinets. The last shows a British home service diorama.

Some super looking figures!

The Danes we work with here are great people and a lot of fun to get to know! Haven't met any TS collectors here yet but who knows maybe there is one or two among them.

Niels does have a nice collection.

These are various Spanish Civil War figures, most of which, Niels made and painted himself. It includes a seldom seen Republican artillery piece and crew. The third photo shows a set of Republican Carabineros.

These two photos of artillery sets didn't turn out too well due to some issue with the flash, but I thought I would include them anyway.

I also hand carried two Hiriart sets to Copenhagen that Niels had ordered this year. The first was a special version of set 1156 Chasseurs Alpins with the figures wearing Adrian helmets with dark pants rather than berets with white pants. He ordered this set with one extra man, not shown.
