During WWll there was no metal available for producing toy soldiers so here comes the cardboard armies. Built-Rite and other companies made forts, ships, soldiers and planes from punchouts. Some were pretty neat. I have a few left and one beat up Navy box. I sold most years ago. No K&C but it had to do at the time-1940's. Leadmen
Also appearing soon is the elite Dimestore Brigades:cool:

Those look pretty vintage! Any idea what they are worth? I remember making my own paper soldiers like this in school with my big fat public school crayons with only 5 colors. Ah!!! the good old days! :p

I remember growing up in the early 50's and going to the Woolworth's or the other 5 and dime stores and my grandmother would occassionally purchase a set for me. They would be sold in packages that looked like books. They were semi-cut out by the factory and I would have to punch them loose to free them up for my wars. They usually lasted about a week. I maybe had five or six sets total.

John,

Those are absolutely wonderful vintage items! And,...they seem to be in such outstanding condition! You are an extremely lucky man to have those items in your collection. I would love to add some like them to my collection.

Warmest personal regards,

Pat

I should have kept them. I sold most but these were left. Maybe if I get some vintage Navy ships assembled or repaired I will take a pic. Also found a B-17 plane. Leadmen

Please do. Did Dover make any copies of these cut outs?

Wow, how the heck did you keep this in such great condition?

Carlos

Carlos I moved them around for years. I stored them in plastic boxes. Some I got from an old neighbor who had a garage sale. I sold mint sets at Chicago one year and most from childhood did not survive. I still see misc. stuff at shows. I just found another box. I been mad all weekend because I thought someone took my Marx tin flat figures. I pictured burglar or other stuff missing but finally found everything Sun night. It is weird to become upset with something you are missing. I got major surgery in a week and more worried about this stuff. John

John, Thank you again for sharing your collection. I am glad you found your stuff. It can be pretty frustrating to lose stuff. Good luck on the surgery. Looking forward to seeing more from you soonest.
