All,

Took the wife to the Alamo Drafthouse here in San Antone to go see Noah. If you have not been to a Alamo Drafthouse your missing it! Eat, drink and watch a flick all in one theater that was blessed by Tarantino. Anyway, NOAH was the most HOOORRRRRRRIIIIBBBLLLEE biblical rendition I have ever saw, and I mean HAAAAARRRRRRRIIIIIIIOOOOOBBBBILLLLLEEEE!

Rock monsters walking around with light in them, Cain was a stow-a-way...C'mon man! None of that was in the good book. I mean this flick was borderline blasphemy if not communists.

I should have asked for a refund...on the movie that is.

Happy Easter John .....
Well the movie was .....uuummmmm :rolleyes2: ..... different to be sure. When I saw the "rock monsters" or the "Guardians" as I believe they were called it reminded me of a Harry Potter film. I believe there were rock monsters in those??

I wouldn't call the movie horrible .... it was entertaining, sorta' .... but very possibly my threshold or expectations are lower than yours. For example I saw that the movie ... GODZILLA ... is coming out shortly and I can't wait to see that ...{sm2}

I am by no means a theology scholar but, like you, I don't remember any of that in Sunday School. Still it was senior night at the movie theater which means a $4.00 ticket ... AND ... a free popcorn so I had a good time, however I doubt that it will be nominated for any Oscars in 2014??

Speaking of Harry Potter, I didn't know that Emma Watson was in it?

Larry!

For shame on Russell Crow. Yeah that actress was in the flick and she was good. C'mon now, if your going to do a Bibilical flick I expect 10 Commandments or Passion of the Christ yo! They had a free script and BLEW IT. I guess my expectations for Russel Crow were to high...he is a great actor, but could not pull this one through.

Speaking of ole Crowe...a prequel to "Master and Commander" would be AWESOME. So, my review still stands...it was:

HAAAAAOOOORROOOORIIIIBBLLLEEEEEEEEEEEE...but the Royal with Cheese was good at the draft house.

It's all a myth anyway and there isn't 2 hours worth of material in Genesis. We liked it. A quick glance at Genesis and you can find the fallen angel rock monsters inspiration.

Good special effects and acting with two strong female characters.

Noah should have been in his tent according to Genesis when he got drunk but the story was right about why Ham went away. Nice plug in sequence of The Theory of Evolution in Noah's recitation of the 1st 6 days of creation.

There was John Huston as Noah in a movie version, that TV special with Mary Steinburgen as Mrs. Noah, and Danny Kaye as Noah in a musical, Two By Two.
Considering that you can find about a half dozen or more irreverent cartoons of the story on Youtube with Mr. Magoo, a "Melotunes", 3 (!) from Disney, and several foreign musical versions, this live production is pretty good, respectful of the source material and closer to the theme of the story of a corrupted earth.

Religious film fare has been pretty drippy recently but this in an origin story even the non religious can like.

Maybe that is why I found the NOAH movie entertaining..:rolleyes2:

The last two weeks there have been 14 different "Easter" movies on TV (DISH).... some classics like Richard Burton in THE ROBE; BEN HUR and mini series like "THE BIBLE". The other dozen were very dated.

So I'll still stand by my "GOOD" review.

I really like those old Bible and religious movies. Lots of action. Today Demetrius and the Gladiators would be called The Robe II. Last Temptation of Christ was interesting because it had the different interpretations of Jesus from the 4 Gospels plus Paul's interpretation all in one portrayal by Willem Defoe.

I'm with you John, if you pardon the expression it was a God awful movie, saw at least 2 couples walk out, I'll second the Alamo theaters as well, moving to Texas and discovering those theaters is a real revelation, really makes the movie experience a true pleasure. It's been a bad couple of weeks for movies for me, saw a worse movie " under the skin " Saturday night had me asking "what the ____ was that?" Do not see that movie even if it does star scarlet johanson naked!

NMROCKS,

Where you been brother? Good to see up and running. Scarlett Johanson naked? Dude, sign me up!

Has there even been a really great movie based on the Bible? We might describe it as 'The Greatest Story Ever Told' but it seems difficult to do it justice on the big screen. Even a movie like Ben Hur consigned the biblical references to the periphery.

I am not a "religious movie" fan. That said I totally enjoyed "The Ten Commandments", "Ben Hur", "The Robe" and its sequel "Demetrius and the Gladiators". They had iconic actors like Charlton Heston, Yul Brener, Edward G. Robinson, Richard Burton, Victor Mature, etc....
I went to see "Noah" because it was partially filmed near my home (Oyster Bay, Long Island), I bumped into Russell Crowe while kayaking in Cold Spring Harbor and one of my good friend's sons had a bit part in the movie.
Some good actors, special effects and action scenes......but not for Biblical purists or historians. If curious wait for it to come to cable. This will not be a "classic" like the movies I mentioned above. I doubt anyone will be inspired or converted.

Scott,

Well, I didn't go see Noah for the sex and violence for that you can just watch regular TV. Brother, just when I think a show is safe for me and the kids, man I got to hit the mute button or a quick channel change. Also, I was definitely not looking for a "come to jesus" moment via Noah, but I am still of the opinion:

Noah...for shame.

John

A really good Old Testament movie will have all the "sin" that the characters will then be punished for. The Golden Calf orgy scene in The Ten Commandments for example. Several New Testament films including Salome and King of Kings have had Salome's dance.

Noah had no cleavage and the women wore pants.
