Has anyone ever seen a copy of Northwest Passage with Spencer Tracy on DVD? I have a video copy but that is going to be useless soon. Any copies overseas? Please? Cheers, ssorc1

I would suggest trying TCM.com they have like thousands of classic films for sale.

Hope this helps

It's a shame we don't have this movie on dvd ..when i see real rubbish on the shelves of the videostore...!Luckily i recorded a tv passage...

I have a pretty nice digital copy I downloaded off the net. If you know how to use torrents than search for it, otherwise I could burn a DVD for folks who want it and send it to them. It would work in your computer's DVD player, not sure about a stand-alone DVD player. Technically sharing this movie ain't illegal since it's virtually impossible to buy in most people's countries of residence in a legitimate form. I should know - I tried. Maybe some copyright lawyer here can advise me otherwise.

I'm pretty sure that it's illegal to share copies, ie, to make and distribute additional copies, regardless of the movie's availability in the marketplace, but as you noted, a lawyer who has studied or worked in copyright law would be better able to say.

Well if they took someone to court over sharing this movie, wouldn't they have to demonstrate how much potential profit they were losing, and since this movie is not available through any legitimate distribution sources (aside from the second-hand market - i.e. amazon.com - where the original right-holders make no profit off of either), then their argument might have weak legs to stand on.

It's pretty simple in my book - make it and we'll buy it - until then, we'll use other means to watch an important part of our cultural cinematic heritage.

Unless there is a law that specifically makes doing what you describe illegal. Your scenario is similar to the Napster issue. If there is such a law, to protect intellectual property, then it's clear that it's illegal, but we have processes to work to change laws with which we disagree.

Until we hear from someone who knows for sure, however, this is all just speculation.

Good to know. I also wouldn't rule out getting this on region free BlueRay. They are starting to add more and moare of the classics.

The problem with this one is it contains some touchy themes... namely how native peoples are described and portrayed. It's not something a media company will necessarily be in any rush to associate themselves with or take a risk on with Blu-ray. That's the only reason I can think of for its scarcity on DVD.
