The 12th SS Panzer Division "Hitlerjugend" was a German SS formation during WW2, the majority of its enlisted men were young members of the Hitler Youth some of them aged just 16 years old, while the senior NCO'S and officers were from other SS units. The division was renowned for its tenacity in battle but it also gained notoriety for war crimes committed against civilians and captured Allied troops. During the Normandy campaign the division suffered 80% losses and was withdrawn for refit, where it took part in the Battle of the Bulge. After this failed offensive the division was then transferred to Hungary but as defeat stared Germany in the face, the 12th SS managed to extract itself from the Soviet advance and surrendered to American forces in Austria. Several of its leading figures were put on trial for war crimes after the war.

Synonymous with the SS was the pea dot pattern fabric, which was one of a family of German WW2 camouflage patterns and first issued to the SS in early 1944. The pattern had 4 main colours, arranged as small rounded areas dotted over large irregular areas. The makeup of the dye was subject to local availability which was then becoming somewhat erratic with artificial and cheaper dyes being used by some manufacturers.

The uniform came as 2 piece jacket and trousers set and was intended to be worn by itself or over other uniform. Initially the uniform was made using high quality cotton but as raw materials became scarcer, other textiles like Rayon and HBT cloth were utilised and even mixed together. When uniforms made from artificial blends like rayon are dyed, the original colour scheme becomes more muted and softer. The browns take on a purple or mushroom type colour appearance, quite unlike the bright modern re-enactment uniforms seen today. Rayon although excellent for drill uniforms due to it's high tensile strength, loses a lot of this resistance when wet, the absorption for water increases and the material also loses thickness. Our first two 12th SS soldiers are therefore shown wearing the more muted pea dot pattern uniform as per pictures. Should these first two sets sell well then we intend to release more variations of these parade soldiers and also some 'in action' figures later next year.

SS065A 1x infantry soldier looking to front priced at $45/£35 each.
SS065C comprises 5 x SS soldiers looking to front and priced at $200/£165 per set.

CLUB032: General Erich Marcks was a German officer in the Wehrmacht during WW1 and WW2. He was responsible for drafting the first plans for Operation Barbarossa (conquest of Russia) which he deemed possible within 17 weeks. He commanded several different Divisions during his career and his 53rd birthday coincided with the Allied invasion of Normandy where he was then based, a birthday not likely to be forgotten! Although not as well known as some other German high ranking officers, for those of you who have watched the film 'The Longest Day' you will probably remember him from the photo below where he plays a scene in the film discussing wargames and how he predicts the Allies will come across at Normandy, he was of course quite correct. Marcks was killed on 12th June 1944 by an Allied barrage as he carried out a front line inspection of his troops. Available at the normal retail price of $42/£33.50 per figure.

CLUB031: Erwin Rommel served in the German army during WW1 and was awarded the Pour le Merite for his actions on the Italian front. He distinguished himself with the 7th Panzer Division during the 1940 invasion of France. Rommel later went on to earn worldwide fame in the North African campaign and then onto command the German forces in Normandy in the run up to the anticipated Allied invasion. Rommel was implicated in the July 20 plot to assassinate Hitler and took Cyanide on the promise that his reputation and family would remain intact. The modern German army's largest barracks at Augustdorf is named in his honour.
Limited to 80 pieces worldwide and priced at $42/£33.50.

Our first new Club figure this month CLUB 030 is Hans Gunther von Kluge, a German officer in WW1 who went on to become a Field marshal during WW2. Kluge held commands on both the Eastern and Western Fronts. Although not an active participant in the 20th July assassination attempt, he was recalled to a personal meeting in Berlin to 'discuss recent events related to the July 20 assassination attempt' with Hitler. He was offered the choice of a public trial/disgrace or suicide, obviously the result of the trial was a foregone conclusion! Refusing to commit suicide and opting for a public trial, he was then shot dead by SS officer Jurgen Stroop.
Limited to 80 pieces worldwide and available for $42/£33.50 per figure.

FJ040: Hermann-Bernhard Ramcke was a German general of paratroop forces during WW2. He led airborne units in Crete, North Africa, Italy, Russia and during the Normandy 1944 campaign where he commanded the port of Brest. Ramcke was convicted of war crimes after WW2 for the execution of civilians on Crete, he claimed this was in retaliation for the Cretans massacring German Paratroopers as they landed unarmed or were dangling helplessly from trees during the campaign. Ramcke spent several years in captivity and escaped on 2 occasions, once to post letters in protest at his treatment and the other to go and see his family, he handed himself in on both occasions once he considered his mission accomplished! Ramcke remained a committed right wing Socialist and often spoke out about the poor treatment of the Germans by the Allies after the war. Many of his comments at public meetings were considered irresponsible by some and he was lucky not to be returned to prison. He died in 1968 aged 79 years old.
Our depiction of Ramcke is of him wearing a Luftwaffe greatcoat whilst also sporting Fallschirmjager green combat trousers and jump boots. Limited to 80 in number and priced at $42/£33.50 per figure.

SS064 Erich von Manstein was a Field Marshall in the German army during WW2. He helped devise plans for the invasion of France in 1940 and led the failed relief operation of the 6th army at Stalingrad. Manstein redeemed himself at the 3rd battle of Kharkov where his forces helped defeat 3 Russian armies and regain substantial territory. He was relieved of his command by Hitler in 1944 and was captured by the British in August 1945. Manstein was tried for war crimes and convicted, serving 4 years in total. After the war Manstein served as an adviser to the West German government in helping re-establish German armed forces. once again limited to 80 pieces in number worldwide and priced at $42/£33.50 whilst stocks last.

SSO63 Wilhelm Mohnke was one of the original members of the SS Headquarters Guard Berlin 'Stabb Wach' formed in 1933. Mohnke took part in the Polish, French, Balkan and Normandy campaigns where he was a regimental commander of the 12th SS Hitler Jugend. Towards the end of the war Mohnke took command of the Leibstandarte and then led them during the Battle of the Bulge. He was also last commander of the Berlin garrison during the final battle of April/May 1945.
Mohnke was not convicted of any war crimes and died in 2001 aged 90 years old. Limited to 100 in number and priced at $42/£33.50 per figure.

World War 2

SS062 Paul Hausser was one of the highest ranking officers in the SS, he led his troops in the French campaign, at Kharkov, Kursk and Normandy. Hausser lost an eye earlier during the war and was severely wounded towards the end of the 1944 Normandy campaign with a bullet through the jaw. He was relieved of his command in April 1945 by Himmler, probably to his relief. Hausser was not convicted of any war crimes by the Allies post WW2, after the war he worked for the US historical authority and formed a Lobby Group for ex SS members. Limited to 100 in number and priced at $42/£33.50 whilst stocks last.

Dear all welcome to our November newsletter featuring some exciting new figures which we hope will appeal to you. As we have brought the release date forward our other factory is not yet ready to ship, so the ship left without them. This means that this month only a very small selection of Ancients which should give some of you breathing space to catch up.

It's also CLUB month, as part of an ongoing revamp of the Gunn Club we have put together some very special offers and some new Club figures for you.

It's actually been a while since we had a new Club figure, our early German figures were very popular, so we decided to launch 3 at the same time to make up for it! All our Club figures can be bought at the normal figure price of $42 or are free when you spend $300/£200 via our website. Please note only 1 Club figure of your choice per $300 purchase, if you spend $600 you can opt to receive 2 figures and so on. Club figures are only offered on the date of purchase, we cannot make Club figures available for past or future purchases. For example "could you send me a Club figure now because none were available 2 years ago when I made a purchase from you, I have not bought any other figures from you since then and would you mind also covering the postage!"
You might think we are making the above up, but somebody did email in asking this. Our Club figures are free subject to availability and providing you spend the required minimum amount, please help us keep it that way and enter into the Club spirit in the same spirit that we release them.
