Recently I got some sets from the older Britains "Knights of Agincourt" series in matte finish.
Ended up having a duplicate of set 17809 (Henry V and John, Duke of Alencon), so I gave it a try to convert one set to a glossy finish.
Got that idea, when fellow forum member "Dragoon" showed us his wonderful, in my opinion, glossy finished John Jenkins sets.
Here are some side by side photos to compare both finishes.
What do you guys think? Which one do you prefer?
Thanks for any input.
First here is the figure from John, Duke of Alencon.

Here are some comparison photos for the other figure of that set, Henry V.
Since I started this thread in the glossy Britains section, I guess you know where my preference has ended up :)

Hi Konrad,

The gloss finish brings out the colours more imho, very nice effect.

I think so too, Jeff.
Here are two more and tonight I am busy to gloss the other ones I have :)

Konrad...they both look good...but I think the glossies have a certain charm to them...

Hi Konrad,

You have done a really nice job with these figures. After examining your side by side photographs, I prefer the glossy finish. But,...then again,...you probably knew I would. :rolleyes2:

Also, I want to compliment you for taking the risk to alter nice matte finished figures to produce a glossy finished figure. You did well, my friend.

Warmest personal regards,

Pat {bravo}}

Konrad, the glossies look much better for these figures. Far better. Great conversion. -- Al

Thanks for the comments, guys.
It was really fun to do this and I am looking forward to take pictures of a couple more figures I "glossed" tonight.
Mike, "a certain charme" is just the word I mostly use when people ask me what I like about glossy figures.
Pat, yes I sure had a clue that you would opt for the glossy version :)
Dragoon and Lancer, very glad to know you like the figures in their new finish.
By the way, everyone, I have a thread up in the "wanted" classifieds, where I am looking to find 4 more sets of this series :wink2:

Two French Men-at-Arms here, just dried from the glossy treatment.

Hi Konrad,

These figures look much better in the glossy finish! I am actually considering another company's Saxons and Vikings because they are glossy and I think the colors should be a little more vibrant! What do you use for the glossy coat? Spray on with a can or an airbruch or did you paint the gloss coat on?

Thanks for shaing these with the great photos

Dave

Hi Dave,
I sent you a pm.
The gloss application is brushed on, in two sessions, about two hours apart.
Was afraid to use a spray application, because some areas would most likely get covered too much, when trying to take care of any view when spraying.

Here is one of the British Archer sets, which comes with some accessories like stakes and the arrow bag.

Konrad: I prefer the glossy look on the knights. There is a certain charm about the gloss finish on these figures. Nice work. John

Hi John (johnnybach), John (beating retreat) and John (leadmen).
Looking at the knights on my shelf again and again since yesterday and must say, that I really enjoy them now.
Love this high gloss finish.
Two more figures here, that I got done, a French Knight and Edward, the Duke of York, and now I will have to wait and see if I can find the remaining sets.

I do agree that especially with this subject matter, the high gloss finish really suits them. Yours really look great now.

Hope this isn't a private party Konrad - because as further evidence, m'lud, I enter exhibit "A" , which are my attempts at re-paints of some of Britains old "Knights of Agincourt". I just love that shine. jb
