WOW217: The C-46 Commando was a twin engine transport aircraft most famous for its operations in the China-Burma-India theatre. A variety of transports had been employed in the campaign, but only the C-46 was able to handle the wide range of adverse conditions encountered by the USAAF. Unpredictably violent weather, heavy cargo loads, high mountain terrain, and poorly equipped and frequently flooded airfields proved a considerable challenge to the transport aircraft then in service, along with a host of engineering and maintenance nightmares due to a shortage of trained air and ground personnel.

After a series of mechanical problems were controlled if not surmounted, the C-46 proved its worth in the airlift operation in spite of continuing maintenance headaches. It could carry more cargo higher than other Allied twin-engine transport aircraft in the theatre, including light artillery, fuel, ammunition, parts of aircraft and on occasion, livestock. Its powerful engines enabled it to climb satisfactorily with heavy loads, staying aloft on one engine if not overloaded, though "war emergency" load limits of up to 40,000 lbs often erased any safety margins.
Never used in the same numbers as the C-47 Skytrain the C-46 was nevertheless used on the European front with several being used to drop Paratroops during Operation Varsity in 1945.
The C-46 was a large aircraft with a 103ft wingspan comparable to a B-17 Flying Fortess, it could also carry double the payload of the smaller C-47, which made it ideal for airlift operations.

Postwar the C-46 was used by Israel and numerous other air forces including the USA which operated it during the Korean and Vietnam war, with a number being flown by the CIA under the guise of Air America.
Just 2 x C-46's in the markings of the 'Syracuse Shackrat' are available at the moment, another 3 are planned if the demand arises, price is $1500 plus postage depending on location.

WOW205: The Kyushu Shinden (Incredible Lightning) was a late war experimanetal 'Heavy Fighter' procured by the Japanese Navy in an attempt to rid the skies of American B-29 Superfortresses. The design was radical in that the engine was a pusher type fitted to the rear with a canard fitted to the front for increased stability. Armament was to be 4 x cannons fitted into the nose, it was envisaged that a jet engine would replace the conventional turbo prop design once these became available. Two prototypes were built and flown before the end of the war, both were captured intact by the Americans and shipped to the USA for evaluation.
We have 3 Shindens available in this colour scheme priced at $550 plus shipping, comes with free figure of RS053 Japanese sentry as per attached pictures.

Wonderful work, If I may make a comment and not too late to correct: I do not believe that the F-4's of that period had the frameless wind screen. To the best of my knowledge very few F-4E's ever adopted the frameless F-18 style wind screen in the 1990's.

WOW216: The Avro Anson was a graceful looking twin engine interwar aircraft, originally designed for general/maritime reconnaissance and also as a light bomber. By the time WW2 erupted the RAF had received 824 Ansons with 10 Squadrons operating in the maritime role and the other 16 squadrons with Bomber Command operating in the training role.
The Anson was armed with 1 forward firing Vickers machine gun and a Lewis gun operated via a turret for rear facing defence. A small bomb load could be carried under the wings if circumstances dictated it.
In 1940 3 x Ansons were attacked by 9 x Bf Me 109 fighters, in a remarkable twist of fate 2 of the Messerschmitt's were shot down and a third fighter was damaged! The Anson was operated by the Australian, New Zealand, Canadian and USAAF and was still in service with many air forces in the 1960's.

What makes this Anson model special is the extremely detailed interior with the normal pilots chair and normal ancillary details but also to the rear, the navigators table and chair. All of this hand carved and painstakingly glued together to create on of our nicest pieces so far.
The Anson is priced at $1050 plus $150 shipping to the USA and Australia, for UK and Europe please contact us for a UK price and shipping quote as you are much closer to us.

WOW209: The Focke-Wulf Fw 189 Uhu ("Eagle Owl") was a German twin-engine, twin-boom, three-seat tactical reconnaissance and army co-operational aircraft. It first flew in 1938 and entered service in 1940, production ran until mid-1944.

Called the Fliegende Auge ("Flying Eye") of the German Army, the FW 189 was used extensively on the Eastern Front with great success. It was nicknamed "Rama" ("frame" in the Russian, Ukrainian and Polish languages) by Soviet forces, referring to its distinctive tailboom and stabilizer shapes, giving it the characteristic quadrangular appearance. Despite its low speed and fragile looks, the FW 189's manoeuvrability made it a difficult target for attacking Soviet fighters. When attacked, the FW 189 was often able to out-turn attacking fighters by simply flying in a tight circle into which enemy fighters could not follow with an incredibly detailed interior.

Today we have 1 variant on offer in very limited numbers, a two tone green camouflaged model with yellow theatre bands for the Russian front.
This was a difficult project to complete due to the complex glass canopy but I am sure you will agree the finished result was well worth the effort.

The FW 189 comes with free FJ035 sentry figure and is priced at $1050 plus $150 shipping to the USA and Australia, for those of you in Europe or UK please email us for a bespoke postage quote as the shipping will vary from country to country.

Welcome to our October 2018 newsletter featuring 4 new limited edition warbirds. As a general rule of thumb most of our wooden aircraft models will be 1/30 scale unless it is one of the larger twin or four engine aircraft and then it will normally be 1/32 scale.
All our models are hand carved Mahogany and take around 60 hours to manufacture, each comes with a detailed interior and display stand. All our aircraft can be paid for over 1-6 months to make buying more affordable for those of you on a budget, if you require details please let us know via email. For UK and European customers please enquire for a £ price to include postage as you are a lot closer to us than our other customers living in more exotic climates like America and Australia!
