You were missed this year. The new visitor centre has more of a museum feeling ie modern, lots of glass and a ton of light. However the vendors were in the narrow part of the building so it was still an issue getting round people to view the tables similar to the barracks. Now saying all that, you can actually see what you are buying as opposed to the dimly lit barracks. Also the exhibits and vendors were housed in the same building as opposed to the barracks and guardhouse concept especially as it has rained the past 2 years. Because the fort was closed, there was no charge for admission to the vistor centre.
BTW The ROM is great (superb roman and greek archives) so something to look forward to for Ericka and not a long cab ride from the fort
