Down, but not out, these French Poilus regroup after a failed attempt to retake lost ground after the initial German assault during the Battle of Verdun. The French, who seem to be stretching thinner and thinner with every passing day, mustn’t lose their symbolic town of Verdun. To these brave defenders, Verdun is very much the pride of the nation, it contains a 2000 year history and retains its name from the word “Virodunum,” loosely translated from Celtic tribe language to mean “Strong Fortress.”

That means a lot to me! That's probably the most labor intensive and time consuming thing I do for these pictures, so I do appreciate it!
