Halloween is still strong in Texas...at least in Galveston in my neighborhood...on the average...I get about 1,200 kids come to my door every year on Halloween...we hire several cops in uniforms and squad cars to patrol the event...it's a very safe neighborhood event...I have never heard of an incident on Halloween night since I moved here...it's scheduled from 5:30-9:00 PM...tonight was pretty cold...in the high 50's...and very windy...so it seemed really cold...which I think dampened the crowd's attendance...I got maybe 1,000 kids tonight...give or take a few...I actually count the candy after I buy it and count again if I have any leftovers...usually I only give one piece per child...so that's a pretty accurate guesstimate...I buy brand name candy...the good stuff...usually I buy Snickers...Milky Ways...Butterfingers...Almond Joys...etc...good quality stuff...it's a couple hundred dollars...but it's a fun event...so I don't mind...the kids are really cute...the neighborhood has hosted this since I moved here 20 years ago...it's a nice family event for the most part...the children are unGodly polite...almost always saying "thank you"...here are some pics...

Great shots and costumes.....we live high up on a hill and get no trick or treaters. My grandkids dressed up and had fun. Several blocks of homes are safe zones for the kids with parents patrolling and checking the candies.
Looks like you have a great neighborhood.

Richard...
I honestly look forward to it every year...
it's a family thing for the most part...
and that's a big turn on to me when the parents spend time with their children...
I think that's so important...

I hide my bottle of Jameson behind the planter box...^&grin
have friends come over to help...
let trick or treaters I know park in my driveway...

the kids are unbelievably excited...
running to the door...
falling down...
trampling my grass...
screaming trick or treat and thank you...

I'm a type 2 diabetic...
so I really don't want any candy left over...
so my friend usually takes the leftovers...if there are any with her...

Fun stuff. I like the kid cop. He has that look. You must live in a young neighborhood. When we moved to a new neighborhood, we gave away over 20-bags worth of candy. Ten years later, all the kids grew up and now its a ghost town with very few kids going trick or treating.

The traffic can depend how the demographics of your neighborhood, or town, too. In my neighborhood and the surrounding blocks, it's mostly older couples, empty-nesters, and retirees. We're seeing turnover now, with a couple of new neighbors, young couples just starting out, with infants. In a year or two, the number of kids trick-or-treating will start to go up.

The city's Halloween parade is consistently well-attended, though.

Prost!
Brad

The daylight pics remind me of my surprise, when I first moved here, to see trick-or-treaters out a 5PM as I was coming home from work. And they were all done by 6.

Where I grew up, we went out at sundown, and did most of our trick-or-treating in the dark.

We also observed Halloween on Halloween. It still seems strange to live in a town where it's scheduled, usually on the Friday before the 31st. I understand the logistical reasons for it, but it still seems weird to me.

Prost!

honestly...just the opposite...it's an older neighborhood with just a few children...all the people drive here and it's hard to find a place to park...

same here Brad...it started at dusk til about 9PM when I was a kid...Halloween...probably how I ended up with diabetes...^&grin

Really nice to see families out having fun with all the bullcrap you hear anymore. We use to get a lot of kids too,Nothing like Mike {eek3} .I guess they've all grown up now with no new ones in the neighborhood.
