I guess I stumped the experts on the two previous bands I showed, so I decided to try with another one. The yellow stipes and plumes are what I haven't been able to match. Thanks for all the help and I am hoping someone can let me know what unit they represent.

Hi, Simos!

My guess would be that they depict a US Army band, circa 1890 (give or take a few years). In the wake of the Franco-Prussian War, Prussian military fashion replaced the French, and many armies, including ours, adopted features in the same or similar style. We adopted a spiked helmet as a dress uniform item at that time, though it didn't last too long. Some countries adopted the Pickelhaube and tunic (Waffenrock) in exactly the style of the Prussian army's.

The earliest American toy soldier makers also based their toy soldiers on that uniform, too.

I'll be curious to see what other ideas anyone has.

Prost!

Brad beat me too it I was going to say 1880-90 USArmy Cavalry band. I would need to go and look in one of my uniform books but the yellow plumes on the helmets is certainly Cavalry for that period.

Dave

Ok on looking at my books they are Cavalry. Great looking set!
