"Never in the field of human conflict has so much been owed by so many to so few." ---Winston Churchill
"Adolph Gysbert Malan, better known as Sailor Malan, was the famed World War II fighter pilot who led No. 74 Squadron RAF during the height of the Battle of Britain. Under his leadership, the 74 became one of the RAF's best units." (From Corgi catalog)

I have been campaigning to get K&C to produce some RAF, USAAC, Luftwaffe and IJN pilots, groundcrew and aircrew for some time now. Wouldn't it be nice to see figures of these great heroes in 1:30 scale at K&C's level of quality?

I couldn't agree more with you. What are those pilot figures K&C show with the warbirds that they say are not available? Imagine the Corgi or Frontline RAF scramble sets done by K&C? :)

Randy, your ability to produce such terrific and varied pictures is outstanding - I take my hat off:)

Thanks Kevin
This variety makes it impossible to collect anything in depth--but hey as they say "Variety is the spice of life" My wife says "You love everything"

Here are the origins of the figures:

Hawker Typhoon - Del Prado figures
FW 190 - from WB 01, the polystone ME 109
Arado - from Transporter set
Swordfish - FoB figures
Whirlwind - Del Prado
ME 410 - WB 01 figure and Transporter set figure

I don't believe Andy has the right to resell the Del Prado figures, so here's hoping for K & C pilots and groundcrew.

Sailor Malan is a South African hero. After the war he was involved in the Torch Commando. This was a group of veterans who carried lighted torches through the centre of town at night to protest the Nationalist government
's attempts to impose apartheid legislation during the 1950's. They especially opposed the Nationalist attempts to get the cloured people ( Mixed race people in SA parlance) off the combined voters roll. The Nats only achieved this by packing the senate with new senators and so achieving a two thirds majority in both houses of parliament.
Sailor Malan was a prominent activist against these iniquitous attempts by the Nats to impose apartheid.

Damian
Thank you for this interesting bit of South African history.
Below are pix of Malan (on the left) and an illustration of his air duel with Moelders and a profile of his Spitfire:

Sounds like he was as big a hero in peace time as he was during the war. I would be honored to have him and his Spitfire in my collection (hint hint Andy:D).
