I have noticed from some of the older posts that TinBay has some nice figures for several of the periods of interest to me, including the Napoleonic and ancient Greece periods. I gather from the posts that the figures are K&C size (58-60mm) and blend in well with the K&C NAPs. Is that correct?
Moreover, what is it like to order from them? It seems that most of the items are more or less custom orders. Can someone shed light on how long it takes to get an order and how they are to deal with? Same for figureemporium?

No one has ordered by TinBay or Figure Emporium?

Well if no one has ordered from them, where did the NAP soldiers shown on the forum come from?

Hi, I have a good number of Napoleonic figures from Figure Emporium. I bought them at the Chicago show several times. They are very nice figures! They have metal square bases covered with a grassy substance that you can pick up at an Arts and Crafts store like Michaels. I would say that the scale is about 65mm. Availability is hit and miss and all depends on what Aleksey has at the moment in stock. The figures are crafted in St. Petersburg. He does take special requests depending on complexity but, it could take some time before you will receive it. It's best to see the figures at one of the shows before making a decision on purchase. I, myself, would not mix these with K&C because these are more connoisseur-like and slightly larger in scale. Aleksey is great to deal with.

Thanks for reply. Interesting observations. It is suggested here that both these lines are size compatible with K&C. From the pictures, the style seems fine for filling ranks with poses that are not available elsewhere. I was thinking they would serve that purpose for First Legion.

I don't know what Tinbay are like to deal with Spit, but I'll tell you wot.....I'm very, very, tempted to find out by ordering all 6 of their Mongol figures. I also like a few of their Ukranian figures as well.
Might do it early in 2009.

Cheers

Well maybe I'll wait for your report. One thing that is confusing is that some say they are much larger than K&C and some say they are the same size. From the few comparative pictures here, they seem the same height but more slender; any thoughts?

They look much the same as K&C to me although I understand they are 54mm......(?)
But, then again, my date tonight looked like she had a fair enough, but passing, resemblence to that dame I happen to be married to. Went zooming off on her broomstick leaving me sadly, but not inconsolably, on my own. But all is not lost, cos I'm heading back out into battle to meet up with her again - in around half an hour.
Modern-day parable coming up soon......

I ordered from Tinbay a month or two ago. Basically I can sum it up as worth my while but a long wait.

In terms of their prices, they are very good, especially given the fact they can do custom painting (and possibly even posing) for no additional cost. However, watch out for the shipping cost, it's on a per figure basis which means there's no point in ordering in bulk.

I got them to custom paint a samuari for me. Basically I communicated these details mostly through email. The people at Tinbay were nice but took a while to reply at times. When I had confirmation they could do what I wanted, I placed an order and paid through paypal. After that, it was a long wait. Expect a couple of months of delay time between ordering and recieving your order.

Eventually my figures arrived from Eastern Europe in a surprisingly small box. My samurai was in perfect condition and is a beautiful figure for the price. However, a medieval archer I also ordered was ever so slightly damaged (bent arrow tip). It was not a big deal though, I've gotten much worse damaged from factory produced figures. But keep the fragility issue in mind when ordering.

Overall I would recommend Tinbay primarily for those seeking diverse subject matter that no one else produces, including the ability to paint to one's specifications. That is what makes them worth the various small inconveniences you will go through when ordering from them. If you're just looking to expand your army with generic figures, there's probably easier and cheaper alternatives.

Ah that is most helpful CS. Can you comment on the size vs the "standard" K&C?

Sorry about the late reply, I forgot about this thread. The one figure I got was a samurai of which there is nothing comparable by K&C. The other figure I got was a medieval archer and he is perfectly to scale with K&C's Crusader range (if anything a tiny bit larger). I heard that K&C's Crusaders were closer to 1/32 than 1/30 so that may account for it. Not sure if that size parity continues to something like Napoleonics, but I did compare my Tinbay archer to a K&C Coldstream Guards figure I have and they are close enough that they could work together (if they weren't separated by 500 years in real life!).
