Northcoast Miniatures makes some excellent Civil war heavy guns and mortars. They will be at the West coaster

Heavy guns were not as common and were pretty much used in forts or as siege weapons to capture forts. They were a bit to heavy to lug around and would slow an armies progress. I,m not sure about other eras but around the time of the napoleonic wars a 12lb was pretty much the largest an army would carry around and for the british it was a 9lb. Horse artillary was even lighter.
So unless your going to do a fort or siege dio I would stick to the lighter guns.

Verlinden make several heavy guns from the ACW including Dahlgren,Colombiad, Rodman, Dictator, Brooke, Parrot and Armstrong. Although models rather than toys they do fill a gap in the ordnance department. check out www.verlinden-productions.com they also have a lot of useful bits and pieces of furniture, barrels, walls, gates, bridges etc., most of which are WW2 based but a lot of which can be used for other periods.

There's a neat publicity shot out there of Sophia Loren in a petticoat posing with in front of the gun. I'll try to find it.

Here it is. Great shot of the Pride and the Passion Gun too.

The French uniforms are disappointing. Ms. Loren is not. Pretty good "Bolero" soundtrack. I read CS Forester's book The Gun, that the movie is based on. The movie is nothing like the book.

WOW:eek: I am going to have to see this one again soon.

Was this movie good? I know its about the napoleonic period and something all based around moving this gun but thats all I know about it. Is it worth finding a copy or is it a dud???

Other kind of guns...Mortars!

The BMC Yorktown set has a pretty good mortar which can be had separately or in bags of just cannon. You can't bet the price!

Marx has a smaller version of the huge Civil War "Dictator" Mortar. It's been reproduced and available here with some other "cool" accessories.
