Dear History Buffs of the forum,

Having ordered all 13 Turks this morning based entirely on the fact that I think they'll look amazing - I realised that my historical understanding of their battles and conflicts within the 30 years war/15 years war/Renaissance is somewhat limited to say the least.

Would appreciate any direction members can give as to the dates, battles and individuals I should research along with allies and foes of course.

Looking forward to some good online reading on this matter. HK is somewhat of a dessert regarding books and so would prefer online reference.

A very exciting set of figures and I'm led to believe that they will work with my FL Winged Hussars?

Many thanks

Vicknor

I let Gebs talk about the battle at the gates of Vienna ....

If you do a search for the Battle of Vienna 1683 or Siege of Vienna, you should be able to access a lot of information. The principal military leaders in the Battle were John III Sobieski for the Polish Lithuanian Commonwealth and Grand Vizier Kara Mustafa Pasha for the Ottoman Empire.

The Battle was the high point of Turkish penetration into Europe but they were not completely ejected until the First and Second Balkan Wars of 1912 and 1913, which helped set the stage for WWI.

The late Ottoman Empire up to and including WW1, I'm pretty good to go on. Interesting just reading about the Battle of Vienna now and realising that FL will be releasing stuff for years to come!

The Turkish figures could also be used in a scene against the Landesknechts as pikemen of the latter were used against the Ottoman Empire in the Siege of Vienna of 1529.

I don't know if you've taken a look at any of the Landesknechts made by FL but they are amazingly beautiful figures. Whether you use the Turks against the Landesknechts or against the Polish Hussars, you have three of the most spectacular and tantalizing ranges made by First Legion or any company for that matter. I have some of the Landesknechts and if you wish, I can post photos of them later today.

The Landsknechts are my favorite FL figures along with the French mounted knights and Swiss. I have a Battle of Pavia diorama with over 100 figures and I look at it every day.
Brad is correct that these Turks can be used with the Landsknechts for the first siege of Vienna in 1529. There was a large contingent of the Landsknechts along with Spanish arquebusiers at
the siege.

Always love to see a collection. Especially one in a field where I'm trying to grow my own

It's only a few figures actually but I will take some photos on Sunday.

This first group are Landsknechts of the Holy Roman Empire led by Georg von Frundsberg as he would have been at the Battle of Pavia in 1525. The standard bearers are in the colors of the Holy Roman Empire.

Beautiful figures, in my opinion. If you would like to see closeups of a particular figure, please let me know.

Here's a better photo of Georg Von Frundsberg.

The Swiss Mercenaries, one of the opponents of the Landsknechts at the Battle of Pavia, would not be correct for a scene involving the Ottoman Turks but they are so spectacular that I thought I'd post a couple of photos.

Wow - more to collect. Great photos and many thanks for posting with additional information 👍

Glad to help. It's a range that doesn't seem to get a lot of attention, unfortunately.

Would these Ottomans work for the Great Siege of Malta.

Based on the little I know of the Siege of Malta and Matt's description of the figures, I believe these figures may work. I would have liked to seen more figures wearing the type of headdress worn by the Pasha (which I believe are called horasani) but we should be grateful we have these.
