Yes it is, sponsored by Relic Golden Amusements, Crown Miniatures will be there, not sure who else is going to be there to be honest.

Hobby Bunker, Minutemen Toy Soldiers and Warstore Collectibles will not be there as far as I know.

Thanks for that info.
Bummed that Hobby Bunker & Minuteman will not be there. They always had a large assorment of items.
Noticed they changed the venue again.

Hi Brad,

You are asking an interesting question. From your perspective, how many dealers would need to be present in order for you to consider attending the show? I realize there are many other factors to consider including one's budget, distance to the show, time available to attend, manufacturers represented, specific items for which you are looking, etc. I also realize if only a single dealer has something for which you have been looking, the number of dealers available is of little consequence. But, as a general rule, how many dealers would need to be present for you to make the special effort to attend the show?

In my case, my show experience is limited to the Chicago show at which there many, many vendors. However, there are moments at which I consider also attending an alternate show. Your experience, your opinion, and your observations can be helpful to me as I consider the possibilities of attending a show in addition to the Chicago show.

Warmest personal regards,

Pat :)

Brad,
Crown will be there, as will Eddie Gries, I also think the Jones Brothers will be there.

Really not sure who else, depending on how far it is, not sure if it's worth your time or not.

Wish I could be of more assistance...............

In this case, it's a very good question. This is a relatively small show, primarily a showcase for dealers and collectors here in the Mid-Atlantic area, and fitting in the schedule between the East Coast show and Ed's Heart of the South show (Annandale, VA) in the beginning of December. Ed used to hold it in Langhorne, PA, but the venue became problematic. He moved the show to a smaller venue for 2 years, I think it was, and I think this is yet a third venue. In terms of the number of dealers, it's small, though there was a lot to see. But it's definitely gotten smaller, and it's not as large as his Heart of the South show or the show in North Jersey (Secaucus?).

When it was in Langhorne, for a couple of years, there was a group of collectors of 1/6 scale figures who would display their work-figures modified and dioramas. Ed would make sure they were up front in the space, and everyone got a really good look. He was always very generous to our club, too, and gave us a table to promote the MFCA show. I would bring materials about the show, but also bring my paints and some figures, and sit and paint, and talk up the show and the hobby.

I can't find any info on the show this year, so don't know. Would be nice to hear some details.

Ed doesn't have a website; I think he doesn't even use email. All of the info is available on flyers distributed at his other shows and other toy soldier shows. I think I picked one up at Hackensack, so I'll check when I get home tonight. I don't usually pick up flyers for Ed's shows, though, because I just need to know the date and location, and those I usually know.

I'll have to miss it this year, for a previous obligation on Sunday.

Prost!

And you've hit on a couple of the problems with the show.

He's moved it two times in the past three years. Moving a show is the kiss of death; once is bad enough, but two times in three years is show suicide.

Also, he doesn't advertise in any of the major toy soldier publications, in the local newspapers, or anywhere else for that matter.

And putting flyers out at Hackensack is not going to do the job, plus as you've said, no website, no emails. He depends on dealers telling their customers what shows they'll be at.

This is the 2000's, today it's all about emails, the internet, social media, Facebook, texting, tweeting, twerking and whatever else it is people do these days.

Walk through a mall and all you see is zombies walking with their eyes glued to their smart phones, doing the left to right finger movement across the screen, what in the name of God would people do if they couldn't text, tweet or look at their smartphones, they'd be screwed.

Not to mention this show is two weeks removed from Hackensack, the biggest show on the East Coast and one week removed from Fall In, the third biggest wargaming show on the East Coast.

It reaches a point of saturation with shows, this show as been on life support for what, ten years, I used to do it, gave up on it five years ago, just wasn't worth doing for me anymore.

Bingo. Give that man an award. He's spot on for everything except tweaking. That's what Millie Cyrus does.

Pat,

Probably about 40 or 50 or at least more than Secaucus. That's a small show, which used to be bigger. For me to travel 90 minutes it would have to be big enough for it to be worth it. When I hear that dealers like George or Hobby Bunker aren't going to be there, then it's probably not worth it.

Hi Brad,

Thanks for your reply. Your perspective makes great sense to me. However, since I live in Kansas, a 90 minute drive would very rarely prevent my attendance at a show. In the land of wide open spaces, a 90 minute drive to an event is just a hop, skip, and a jump. ^&grin Driving 90 minutes to an event or to shop is done all the time.

Thanks again for responding to my question. You have been most helpful.

Warmest personal regards,

Pat :)
