Lads,

I just finished packing the last of my collection for its three year hibernation. It'll be residing at my mother in law's place in Missouri while we're in Germany. Thank goodness I've saved all of the boxes, and thank goodness for the guys like Bill Sager who have visual catalogs of retired sets posted to web pages... those things make the process of packing up so much easier. Our non-temp storage begins going out tomorrow, and household goods get on the slow boat next week. We have no space in the quarters provided to display my collection, and I don't trust the moving company to store my collection and not damage/lose any... so up to MO they go!

Lots of good stuff is releasing this month, so this is a tough time to be packing up...

We're planning to attend the London Toy Soldier show in December and will be travelling about on the continent, always trying to hit sites that have a toy soldier shop nearby.

See you on the other side of the pond!

ATW!

Hi Paul,

This year is a "Kulmbach" year, August 7,8,9.

Longest running TS Show on the Planet.

Do yourself a favour, and see how the other half really live!

Regards,

Bob

Hope to meet you in person at the London show next December
guy:)

Kulmbach? Do tell!

OK. Northern Bavaria. (what used to be called Frankonia=Franken) a very pretty town of about 23,000 people known for its commercial breweys Every second year (odd years) after the Bier Festival in the main square, the town council leaves the huge brewery festival tent erected, because the next weekend is the Zinnfiguren show, which is held in the tent. Started in the 1930's (there was a break because of WWII)

Admission is free, full day Friday and Saturday and 1/2 day Sunday. Everybody and anybody who is into TS in central and eastern Europe attends. Used to be mostly flats, but now 50%, or more, is rounds.

There are also very good figure competitions run on the weekend with the entries on display in the Town centre Council chambers on the edge of the square. Standards are very high.

The whole town is dominated by Plassenburg Castle (like built in 1400+) The castle contains a number of Museums, of which the most important is the German National Collection of Zinnfiguren. Entry fees are very reasonable. This is well worth a visit (if only to admire the view!)

It is my favourite show in the world. Because there is free entry, you can come and go as you please. So there is no ergency about slipping out for a gret meal washed down with excellent German Bier, whenever you feel so inclined.

Most vendors speak several languages, including English. But if you do strike someone who can't speak English, one of the patrons will usually translate for you.

All accommodation in Kulmbach is already booked out I would suspect. But that doesn't matter, there are several very nice small towns nearby which will have acconnodation and which are, say 1/2 hours drive from Kulmbach.

When you google Kulmbach you will be able to see images from previous shows, and the Castle.

By Americian standards, it is not a particularly ardous weekend trip from Stuttgart. It is not on an autobahn, so you should be able to admire and enjoy the scenery.

Tell your wife she will love the town (my wife does!), a very presentable array of shops, picture postcard beauty at every turn, perfectly safe, with great places to eat. It is quite compact and relatively small so almost impossible to get lost in the town.

This will be our fifth visit to Kulmbach. To give you an idea how friendly the place is, the staff at the hotel we always stay at remember us! As we check out, there is a chorus of "See you in two years time!"

Start planning!

Regards,

Bob

Paul,
Best of Luck on your tour in Germany. I am sure that you and your wife will enjoy it immensely. As far as Kulmbach, been there
several times. It is a German city well worth visiting !

Paul

Safe travels to you and your family.

I just spent 3 weeks packing all my K&C collections (since 2003) preparing room for my new born baby girl in September. Luckily I have saved all my original K&C boxes for packing

I reside in Hong Kong, and BTW the new K&C shop sales lady provide superb service!

Lads,

Arrived the day before yesterday! Still getting sorted out/adjusting to time changes, etc. Probably the happiest member of the family right now is our dog as the locals seem indifferent, even welcoming to him going places with us--certainly a change from what we're used to at home!

ATW!
