I have started painting up a few of other manufacturers 54mm for myself and a friend. These are the initial figures:

CELT.jpg

Irregular Miniatures Celt painted glossy without shading for a friend - these and the Romans are samples for a possible Army of each

ROMAN.jpg

Irregular Miniatures Roman

Drop-cast copy of a Hinchcliffe Zulu War figure.

Painting Toy Soldier style without shading and highlights is something I am still getting used to...

Nice work, Mike! I'm a fan of the gloss finish, myself, and it's nice to see another painter who works in it. Very nicely done! Do you have plans to get more of the Romans and barbarians? I can see putting together quite a nice display, if you do.

Prost!

They look good Mike. Some shading and highlighting of the faces and hands looks good with glossies although not traditional.

Super! Love the Celt and Roman hope you will post when the Armies are completed!

Thanks for sharing them.

Thanks for the comments. I am seeing Anthony, who I painted the sample Roman and Celt for, tomorrow night. He wants to put together two forces for playing the Command And Colours Ancients boardgame with so I'll find out then if he wants to commission the rest of the forces.

I have already painted 70-80 North-West Frontier AIP British for him in Matte finish and these will be taking part in their first game at the Guildford wargames club tomorrow along with my own 70 or so AIP Afghans.

I've also painted about 70 or so of my own Little Wars Revisited Castings for a British Little Wars army and plan to paint up the Prussian opposition over the next few months for some games in the summer on the lawn.

Although most of my 54mm painting up to now has been for gaming with I am starting to find myself enjoying painting this scale in Glossy Toy Soldier style and think I'll be trying a few new subjects to see how they come out with no intention of playing games with them...
