What would be a good color for painting harnesses? I figure that they would be old, but well cared. Thus I don't want to paint them leather color, but was thinking of a dark brown or brown-black. Any suggestions?

Hi, Al,

In the absence of any specific reference, I use a medium brown, not too dark or too light, such as Tamiya's XF-10. Or I'll use a reddish brown, such as Tamiya XF-64

Hope that helps, prost!

Al,

Similar to Brad, I use a reddish brown acrylic- Citadel's Dark Flesh. (I hope it is still available)

Vallejo's mahogany brown is similar, but slightly less reddish.

And for gloss, I will also reach for Testor's gloss enamels. They have 2 shades of brown, both in the medium range, one slightly darker than the other, but still not as dark as a chestnut brown, for example, and not as light as a tan. I think the catalog numbers are 1140 and 1148, something like that. I'll check the labels when I get home and post back.

Prost!

Hi

I use a base of Vallejo ochre brown mixed with a touch of Vallejo saddle brown once dry two careful washes of Rowney acrylic burnt umber gives a nice worn and well kept shaded effect. No need to gloss it gives a nice satin sheen as it is.
