Up Against the Fence by Pamela Patrick White

Permanence, as we know it, was not characteristic of the Lenape. They moved with the seasons as dictated by food & economics. But upon their return, many found themselves fenced out of their own "reserved" lands by the Scottish, Swedish, Dutch & English settlers.

Records from 1725 show that the Delaware took their complaints to representatives in Philadelphia requesting the removal of dams made on the Brandywine and to halt the White's encroachment. Although the courts found in favor of the Delaware Indians, no action was taken on their behalf. There is no evidence of the Native Americans receiving satisfaction.

I'm not an expert on the subject, but I believe each Highlander regiment had grenadier and light companies. The grenadiers of the regiment would have worn "bearskin" caps such as those shown in the PPW painting (very cool). The light companies would have worn the "bonnet". I don't believe the bonnets would have varied much between regiments, but the facings of the grenadier caps would have been - again my understanding - 77th Green and 42nd Blue.

My eyes are starting to glaze over tonight, but as best I can tell there were about 390 Highlanders, a dozen or so Royal Americans, a small group of Maryland Rangers, and PA packhorse drivers at Bushy Run. Estimates of the Indians range from about 100-400. Mike could recreate the actual battle with those numbers! The Osprey book: Highlander in the French-Indian War is a must. It also includes a nice overhead painting of the entire Bushy Run battle at the moment of the Brit counterattack. Not sure who the artist is and haven't found it on the internet. That would be the most likely moment of the battle to depict in my opinion.
