Does anyone know if Panther #223 at Stoumont in the Battle of the Bulge have a metal plate that covered all of the top of the turret except the commander's cupola?

A quick check of 'Duel in the Mist', Vol.1, shows no Panther #223 in the attack on Stoumont. There were 11 Panthers in the attack: 2 Hq, #'s 201 &202; 3 1st platoon tanks, #'s 211, 214, 215; 3 2nd platoon tanks, #'s 221, 222, 225; and 3 3rdplatoon tanks, #'s 231,232, and 234. I will keep looking to see if I can find #223 in one of the other volumes. -- Al

Further info in Vol. 3 indicates that #223 did take part in the assault, indeed spearheaded the assault on the station after capturing the village. It was knocked out on 12/19 by Battery C, 143rd AAA Gun Bn., in front of the station building and was recovered by US troops the next day. The tank was painted in the Daimler-Benz Classic Factory Pattern and photos taken after the battle don't seem to show any thing extra on the turret top. Sorry for the confusing info, but that is the way it was written up in Vol.1 and updated in Appendix 1 of Vol. 3. -- Al

LANCER:

Thanks for clearing that up. The photos I've seen of Panthers at Stoumont didn't have the metal plate on top of the turret. I saw a model of a Panther #223 with the metal plate on the turret top and wondered if it was #223 from Stoumont. Obviously it's another #223.
