The WWII photo shows a Panzer Kommander and his New Panther. The second photo shows an Academy Panther A and two 70mm Panzer Kommander figures. The figures are the same height without the base on the metal figure. The plastic figure without a base is a Tamiya figure. The second photo attempts to emulate the size relationship between the Panzer and the Panzerwaffe in the first photo using available scale models and metal figures.

The best way to tell if the guy with out the base is correct would be to place him exactly like the original photo. It appears to me that he is nearly the right height but it would be easier to tell if you would place him in front of the Panther. But otherwise I think you have made an interesting point on scale.

Katana,
I am in general alignment with you on scale. I think this is a great representation, but the problem is we do not know the height of the person in the picture. That would be even more compelling if we knew he was 5'6" or 6'2".

Overall, the figures look the correct scale to me. Who makes the second figure?

Dave; thanks for the advise. I have included four figures for comparison positioned beneath the barrel in this photo. The figures left to right are TCS, Del Prado, K&C and Tamiya 1/25 scale. The figures all measure from the top of base to top of head 68-70mm. The bases are 2mm thick.

The deck height of a Panther is 75 inches. The top of the front fender is 60 inches. The Panzerwaffe in the photos chin is at the level of the fender, add 10 inches to the top of his head and he stands 70 inches tall or 5'10" approximatley. The figure with the base is the Del Prado Panzer Officer 1943. The figure height above the base is 70mm. The figure without the base is by Tamiya and is also 70mm high. I know the bases confuse the issue.

It's a 1/24 scale Panther, so:

For a 68mm figure, that would represent a person 5 feet 4 3/10 inches in height.

For a 70mm figure, that would represent a person 5 feet 6 1/10 inches in height.

Hunter Rose; the Academy Panther A is 1/25 scale. A 70mm figure would be 5'9', which is the average height of a male.

Thanks for shifting the figures. It makes it easier to view the difference of heights. I still think the best one to display with the tank in the photo is the Tamiya trooper. This is not a ding on the other figures it is only that for me the guy with out the base looks better in this situation.

Good comparison.

I agree; I consider the Tamiya figure to be as good as the pewter figures. Plus it looks more realistic without the base. The contrast in size between the 70mm 1/25 scale Tamiya figure and the 60mm 1/30 scale figures; is what I find most interesting!
