Four manufacturers currently make 1/30 scale Panzer IV H models with varying features and price points; First Legion, King and Country, Thomas Gunn and War Park. The PZ IV H versions with Tricolor Camouflage will be used for comparison evaluation.

Which manufacturer makes the best example in terms of accuracy and features? Trade off features abound as some come with figures or multiple operating hatches etc. Not a simple determination IMO.

I plan to purchase the best example; so this survey is important.

For me it’s a tossup for best the Panzer IV model between the new War Park tri-color Panzer IVG and the new First Legion Panzer IVH. Both are properly 1/30 scale and have a variety of working features; both also represent tanks from different periods of the war.

The War Park Panzer IV has camouflage accurate for the summer 1943 period, and decent subtle weathering. Features include opening driver, radioman, commander and turret side hatches; and best of all, rolling metal treads. It comes with some unique accessories like the spare track links. Price wise, it’s pretty affordable and close to $100 cheaper than a similar sized First Legion vehicle. War Park also has some excellent crew figures available for the tank.

The First Legion Panzer IVH has a very accurate late-war camouflage scheme and appropriate weathering for a battle-worn tank. It has the same opening hatches as the War Park tank, but the treads are fixed. The neat feature on the FL Panzer IVH are the removable schurzen, which are individual pieces and attach to the frame in a realistic fashion. It is not a cheap model, but has excellent quality. FL makes crew figures, but they are not cheap and the War Park ones are much cheaper and just as good.

War Park has shown pics of an upcoming Panzer IVH in a winter whitewash scheme. I assume this will have similar features to their Panzer IVG along with removable schurzen. If they eventually make a tri-color camouflage Panzer IVH, that would likely get my vote as the best, but for now, I’ll stick with the War Park/First Legion tossup 😉
