Mike

Thanks for the reference to the Wolfe book.

There are 3 18th C art works portraying the Death of Wolfe at Quebec

1. Edward Penny (the one on the cover and the most historically accurate)

2. Benjamin West --oil painting--highly romanticized with addition of a Rousseau inspired 18th C Noble Savage and a Rogers Ranger on the left

3. William Woollett's black & white engraving after the West painting--some of these were hand-colored as seen here--this image was very popular and the print was sold around the world. My wife's family are descendants of the engraver.

West was the greater and more famous of the artists but Penny was more correct

Although it is shamelessly pro-Brit Montcalm and Wolfe by Parkman is a decent read. As I've said before Empires Collide from Osprey is a must for any JJ collector. Lots of great illustrations and info.

Hi Mike,
Just finished reading it. A good read, worth getting. It is about the life of Wolfe, not just Quebec.

Pete
