Today we went to the People's Republic of China Military Museum in Beijing and what a museum. It had artifacts going back 5,000 years. They had an incredible treasure trove of artillery, tanks and airplanes. Just from memory saw a Katyusha, a 1918 German Gun, 1937 Japanese tank, a MIG, plenty of Soviet tanks from WW II and after, a Pershing and a Candadian Flame Tank. I took plenty of photos and will post them on my return next week.

There are plenty of ideas there for Andy and Rick ;) if they haven't been there already.

Very cool Brad.

I can't wait to see the photos. My wife and I are seriously thinking of visiting China next year.

Carlos,

It's a great place to visit but avoid end of June to end of July. It gets very hot and uncomfortable here. However, yesterday was comfortable, probably around 88. Hopefully today will be the same.

It's over 100 here in the Northeast. So enjoy the cool weather. ;)

Today seems back to its normal hot levels, unfortunately.

Just got back to Shanghai. Food is great. Air quality is terrible, plus people are constantly smoking everywhere. The smoking really gets to you after awhile.

Sorry I forgot about doing this. Anyway, let's start it off with the airplanes.

The first two are of a plane that is called an Exploit Jet Fighter made in the Soviet Union in 1949. I assume it's a MIG. I'll let the experts tell us.

F-5 Fighter made in China (1956).

F-6 Fighter made in China.

DF 1 Missile made in China.

All the things you've seen so far had all been inside. We wandered outside to an enclosed but open air area and saw the following relics.

German 1918 75 mm Infantry Gun.

Chinese 1921 75 mm Infantry Gun.

Japanese 1934 75 mm Infantry Gun.

British 115 mm Howitzer.

Japanese T-88 75 mm Infantry Gun.

Really nice photos! Did they have that Soviet Amphibious "Duck" in the last Indiana Jones movie?

Brad,
Thanks for these photos. I've enjoyed them.

Also, the photos taken indoors seem exceptionally sharp.

I hope you're enjoying the trip.

Russell,

We're back. It was a good trip. No complaints except for the heat (and the length of the flights) :)

The first plane is a MIG 15. I love those planes. They are stumpy yet elegant looking.
