I was surprised to hear that HBO was rebooting this one. It's a prequel set in 1930's LA. A bit of "Boardwalk Empire" and "Chinatown." The first episode was pretty good. A bit dark and grim but that makes it interesting.

I have watched the first 2 episodes and liked it more than I thought I would.This is gonna be a good one.

agreed...was off too a slow start...but it's getting better with each episode...
 
I'm liking this show more and more as it goes along. More character than story driven but that is fine. My only beef is that I keep having flashbacks to that terrible Penny Dreadful - City of Angels series which is set in LA around the same time with a similar crossover figure of the Sister Alice based on Aimee Semple McPherson. Otherwise pretty good.
