Apart from budget and space problems, I also encountered the problem of seize of the figures. The "old" Britain's Delhi Durbar figures are smaller then the "new" Britain's Delhi Durbar figures. Also the beautiful figures of Beau Geste are larger then the Britain's ones. So I had to combine figures by seize, for example Beau Geste together with Replica Models and Britain's together with Tradition of London. This is part 1 of my Durbar collection, two more to follow.

Thank you for watching,

Whenever the EURO is stronger than the US Dollar I'll buy some elephants with Maharaja from Beau Geste through Tree Frog Treasures again. In Germany I have to pay 21% bloody VAT and to pick up the items at a German Custom office! So, the chance to buy Delhi Durbar 1903 items from Beau Geste are very slim!
Kind regards,
Peter

Another great collection Pat & Dave will be pleased when they see this. I merged all three of your posts to keep everything together.

Hi Peter,

I am a big Durbar guy as well. I like the way you have your collection displayed and wish I had the space to put mine out as well! Of course I dont have the issue of 21% vat but I deal with the APO and they way they handle the mail is like it was loaded on a camels back and brought here along the silk road... How long have you been in Neustadt which I am assuming is the one near Kaiserslautern. I was in Heidelberg before we were transferred to Poland. Really miss that area.

Super displays so far and thanks for sharing them with us!

Dave

Hi Peter,

Oh, my gosh! Another collector after my own heart! Your Durbar collection is incredible! Thank you so very much for sharing it with us!

There is just something indescribable about a nice Durbar collection. Perhaps it is the colors, or the magnificent elephants, or just the massing of so many different highly decorated elements. Most likely, it is a combination of all of the above. Whatever the case may be, when all these figures are thoughtfully placed together, something magical seems to happen and you become transported to a different time and place.

I fully understand about the size issues. I display my Beau Geste figures separately from my Marlborough and my Britains figures. I also collect the wonderful William Hocker Imperial Durbar series. And, since Mr. Hocker's figures depict the Durbar of 1877 instead of the 1903 Durbar, they, too, are displayed separately. While one might like to combine the figures of these different manufacturers, I find that by displaying them separately, I can almost turn to any direction in my display room a view some portion of my Durbar collection. ^&grin

Thanks again for sharing your collection with us. It is truly a remarkable collection that is expertly displayed. My compliments!

Warmest personal regards,

Pat :)

High Dave,
I live in Neustadt since 1996 due to my posting at HQ Landcent in Heidelberg and the fact that the Dutch community was living in Neustadt. We had our own school, doctor, dentist, support unit and Dutch shop there so we were more or less forced to find a home there. Before that I was posted for 5 years at HQ SHAPE in Mons Belgium and it is in that period that I bought a bundle of Britain sets. I was allowed to use BFPO and I made a lot of TDY's to the UK for all kinds of conferences. At that time we had to travel apex which meant we had to stay a weekend in London before or after the conference. So many visits to Hamleys and the Guards Toy Soldier Centre at Wellington barracks. In 2003 I retired but by that time my wife and I had already made the decision to stay in Neustadt until our dying day. We only visit the Netherlands a couple of times a year to buy Dutch things we cannot buy in Germany. But other than that we enjoy our stay in lovely wine street with its many wine fests!
Have a nice stay in Poland and with kind regards,
Peter

Hello Pat,
Its good to see so many likes on this subject, makes me a lot less 'mad' than I first thought to be. My wife tells me regularly that I don't have a hobby but an obsession! Maybe she is wright but when I look at my Delhi Durbar I not only see all those colors but I can smell the elephants and horses and hear the noise of the crowds and the bands. Durbars are fascinating and we should consider ourselves lucky to have our own Durbar (or Durbars) and look at them and dream away and going back in time.
With kind regards,
Peter
