Phoenix castings were well known for their belles. Instead I got this piece.
I dug it up from my hoard as it seems to form part of this royalty pairings that I am putting together.
Notice the heart-shaped base. Unfortunately I mounted the whole thing onto a bright red wooden base with cursive lettering and it looks mawkish!
I don't have plans to redo this piece for now.

No need to redo it! It looks great- especially him. It does look like the holes in her arms are not cut out, but I really like the look on his face!

I remember this in the old Phoenix catalog. I think you should redo them, Vic, and freshen them up a bit.

... It does look like the holes in her arms are not cut out...

I'm not sure, but that might be fabric draped from the shoulders of her gown.

Prost!

Hi Brad and all,

No immediate plans to refresh this couple. Juggling just too many other projects right now. I need to have my head examined...:)

Over the weekend and with a beer in hand, I tried to prise away the figure set from the red wooden base with a screwdriver. Surprisingly it came off quite easily (tells you a lot about the strength of old epoxy resin glue!). So I decided to rebase the set onto a new base. I cleaned out the residual metal flash underneath the arms and am doing a simple repaint of the figures. I am resisting the temptation to make Diana taller than Charles.

Again armed with the same flat screwdriver (not a Philips...:)) Get it? I guess I am too subtle for this forum....

I prised Diana off the base and added putty to make her taller.

So I shaped and filed the additional putty to fit the contours of her dress. The dress was repainted. Prince Charles was also removed from the base for a general overhaul. The base was painted gloss black. Notice the new elative height of the two personages.

Diana's dress was further cleaned up and repainted with mild highlights. Charles' uniform was carefully repainted, with attention paid to the details. The face was also repainted.
Both figures were epoxied to the base. The photos show the various stages of painting. A clear improvement on the previous attempt! The figures are actually very well sculpted and cast, a tribute to Phoenix Models.

Was dusting the collection and decided that I could make small improvements on this piece.
here it is before the makeover.
