This is a great upgrade that allows you to keep your pictures all in one place grouped exactly how you like them. To give you the overview, I refer to the FAQ:

How do I use albums?
As a member, you can create Albums of images that are linked to your public profile. Albums can be created by visiting the User Control Panel, and clicking on the 'Pictures & Albums' link, and then clicking on 'Add Album'.
Each album can have a title ('Joe's Holiday to Nepal'), a description ('A bunch of photos from my recent adventure') and can be of three different types: Public, Private or Profile.
  • Public albums can be viewed by anyone
  • Private albums can only be viewed by site staff (moderators, administrators) and your Friends and Contacts (info)
  • Profile albums are viewable only by you. However, you can use the images to customize your public profile (info)
How do I upload pictures?
Once you've created an album you can upload images to it. Simply view the album and click on 'Upload Pictures'.
You'll have the option to give each picture a caption, and to set one image as the Album cover, which will be displayed on the public profile. To delete an album or edit the title, description or album type, click on 'Edit Album'. To delete an image, or to edit a caption or change the album cover, click on 'Edit Pictures'.
All members who have access to your album images can comment on them, in a similar way to Visitor Messages (more info). You can delete any image comments from your albums, and report inappropriate messages to moderators.
When you have uploaded a picture, you can place it in your posts by using the BB code text that is displayed below the image when you view it at full size.

I have uploaded a few pictures of my trip to London for the 2007 December toy show as an example and to test out the functionality. It was amazingly easy to upload the pictures. From the 'upload pictures' page you click 'browse' to access the image files on your computer. Click on the one you want and the software automatically resizes the picture both into a large thumbnail and a full-size picture accessed by clicking on the thumbnail. To view my photo album to see the end result just click on my user name to view my profile page.

When you add a picture, you can also add what you want to say about it so if you look at Shannon's photos and pass your mouse over the photo, it will tell you what she wanted to say about it. I have done the same with my album, War Birds.

Hi Shannon,

This new feature is an exciting development for the forum and its membership. I have three questions:

1. Is there a limit on the number of albums a member can create?

2. Is there a limit on the number of pictures a member can place in an album?

3. Is there a limit on the length of the caption a member can give a picture?

I will be giving some thought to creating an album and the answers to my questions will help me make some appropriate decisions.

Thanks for the upgrade and for attention to my questions!

Warmest personal regards,

Pat :)

Pat,

There are 60 photos per album that you can have but I don't know if the number of albums is unlimited sorry and I think the caption can be pretty long. What you could do is try to make a long one and see what happens. I do know that unless someone clicks on the picture, the full caption won't be displayed. I don't know if that totally answers your questions.

Hi Pat,
There is no limit to the number of albums a member can have and each album can have up to 60 images as Jazzeum said.
The caption preview that you see when you hover over a picture will show up to 150 characters. If your caption is longer a person can read the rest of it by clicking the thumbnail and viewing the full-size image.

Enjoy!

Hi Shannon and Brad,

Thanks for responding to my questions. The information you have provided me is most helpful. I think the addition of member albums is an exciting develpment. I hope many forum members will take advantage of the opportunity to showcase their collections. Now, I must do some serious thinking regarding what I might want to include in an album!

Thanks again for the information!

Warmest personal regards,

Pat :)
