The link below will take you to a catalog of images of the many sets that used to be on permanent display at Heritage Plantation in Sandwich, MA. When we lived on Cape Cod in the 1990s we used to go there and I loved looking at these. Most are of American units, including unusual militia formations. I always thought they were by John Scheid, but apparently the work of Harry and Lisl Barker, done in the 1950s.
For what it's worth, I know that the diorama (by Scheid) pictured on p.90 of Bob Bard's 1957 book "Making and Collecting Military Miniatures" was at the Plantation in the '90s and was in great condition. If you like old style conversions and scratch built figures you may enjoy browsing through these.
