I thought that I knew just about every WWII movie that has been made, but I found one the other day that everybody seemed to have seen but me. ^&confuse

It is called "Play dirty " (1968) starring Michael Caine as British officer Capt. Douglas and Nigel Davenport as Cyril Leech, a former criminal turned gun for hire. The movie takes place in the African desert during WWII with the common theme about “blowing up” Rommel’s oil depot. But the thread of the movie goes far beyond that theme.
I won't tell you the ending, but it was (most likely) in keeping with the sentiment of the feelings in the US toward war and the folks that run them. Still I really enjoyed the movie and the references made to the British LRDG. Action was good, dialog was good. Acting was good (can’t go wrong with Caine.) Cinematography was excellent. The flick reminded me of another similar movie by Michael Caine … Too Late the Hero.
Anybody else view these gems!

Sure have. Seen them both and enjoyed them very much. Agree about Caine, he's great. Too Late the Hero was a real off-beat war film and was fun to watch because it was so odd. Liked Play Dirty but didn't care for the ending as I thought it was much too obvious. Didn't hurt the film, just not very original. Both worth watching if one hasn't seen them.^&cool -- Al
