I just bought the "Play Dirty" dvd and I think it is the greatest deserta war movie I have seen (along with the Lion of the Desert). This is vintage Michael Caine!!! An unsentimental view of war. The beginning says it all: a lone jeep drivint back to base with a dusty driver carrying a dead body next to him to the sounds of "Lilly Marlene" sung by Marlene Dietrich. As he approaches the Brithish lines however, he changes the radio frequency to a Brithish swing, American version of the song. Better than Tobruk and its scavenger copy "Raid on Rommel". HOWEVER...... a few issues of historical accuracy. No issue with the uniforms. Michael Caine wears a great looking Sahariana shirt. But the scene with the German patrol shows the AK guys driving American APV (if the movie was not so good, that would have ruined it for me). As for the the cars Michael Caine and his men are driving; are they really Mercedes Benz or just some English trucks with the Daimler tri-star? I am sure some of you guys must know. I would also like to know what other innaccuracies in terms of equipment any of you noticed (that is, if you have seen the film).
I would love to hear from people who have seen this movie. I am really excited about it. Boy, did I get lots of ideas for dioramas and K&C releases!
