Players tackle...then spears referee... (1 Viewer)

one of the most chickensheeeeeeet things I have ever seen in sports...

these boys are starting off on the wrong path...

http://abcnews.go.com/US/texas-hs-football-players-suspended-school-team-video/story?id=33585255

I saw the video clip and was shocked how blatant the "attack" was. I watched a news item just a few minutes ago and the country is now considering CRIMINAL charges to be brought on at least one of those BA$&*rds, hopefully both.

The hit could have left him paralyzed for life.

THIS is what FOOTBALL is becoming. They see the professionals performing these dirty cowardly hits and figure they can too!

Shameful!

Having taught in schools for over twenty years (out of it now thank God)I will say this - every parent wants bullies, thugs, and assorted meanies dealt with summarily right to the point that it is their boy and then it is a whole different story. Then it becomes 'one moment of madness', 'where is the forgiveness', 'we have all done stupid things' and 'boys will be boys'; then eventually, it is 'he will have to live with the knowledge that he has crippled, killed, or maimed someone'. It all starts at home, transfers to the schools and then into the open!

Where else but Texas, where high school football is an important cultural event in many small towns! Let's hope that the kids involved learn from the incident.

I disagree, Al. This is not a Texas thing. Texas and high school football are merely the backdrop.

This story makes me think of two things. First, those kids need to be charged with assault and battery, or whatever the equivalent is in that county Any considerations of leniency can come after they've been charged and tried as the local law may designate. Second, where are their parents? Because this is their parents' failure, too.

There is no excuse for what these kids did to the referee and they should be punished. Certainly their coaches and parents need to be educated as well.
Let's not forget, however, that football is a violent game where aggression and macho are rewarded. While I believe the game has changed for the better over the years, with more
protection and better rules we still see thousands of injuries each year.
When I played, almost 50 years ago, my coaches used phrases like "kill, destroy, inflict pain, crush and smash" your opponents. If the opposing quarterback was knocked unconscious
you were embraced by the coaches and held up as a example of a "tough, motivated player".
I would not let my son play football (although he played soccer and lacrosse which were not without risks) and my grandchildren will not play either. Just not worth the risk of injury or death.
If adults want to bash their brains out playing football, Rugby, Boxing, cage fighting, hockey, etc...that is their right but not sure if children benefit from some of these "sports".

Sometimes you reap what you sow!

not making excuses for these thugs...

not at all...

but they allege that the referee in question made racial remarks...

also...
this was in the same article...

Mack Breed, a 29-year-old assistant coach at John Jay, was placed on administrative leave for allegedly telling the players that the referee "needs to pay for cheating us," the school district said in a statement Tuesday...

so lots of excuses coming out...

"he called us a racial slur"...
"the coach told us to do it"...

boys will be boys...
and I can forgive a lot of things...

but this is ugly...
