If any of you want to know what it was like being a police officer in a large city back in the late 60, & 70,s, you must read this book, "My Life in the NYPD: Jimmy the Wags"
It,s not about great arrest, or how wonderful a police officer he was, but it gives the funny side and the attitude officers had back in those days.
I know I was an officer during those years and can say without a doubt that every story told, I can relate too are had a similar experiance.
I,ve read a ton of police books, but this is the best one ever.

Or just ride with an old-timer, Gary:eek:. I had the fortune to ride with a guy named Gene Windsor on the highway for his last 6 months before retiring. Gene was the guy leaning out of the chopper picking survivors up from the Potomac River after Air Florida Flight 90 crashed into the 14th St. Bridge.
What a guy. Anybody gave him any attitude.....Six citizen complaints on his last day!

Gary,
Thanks for the recommendation. Will look out for it if it makes it to Oz. I was in the Royal Hong Kong Police from 1977 - 1997 and have been waiting for somebody to do a good book about the Police in Hong Kong but so far no luck. Some of the Detectives would have a good tale to tell.
I am currently reading a book called Prisoner of the Turnip Heads by a senior ex Hong Kong cop who was a prisoner there during the war and it is a good read which includes a bit about pre-war service. A good one about the 60/70's is Years of the Hungry Tiger by John Gordon Davis which uses some well known incidents. One event depicts a building collapse and rescue which was actually done by a friend of mine.
Regards
Brett
PS Note King and Country does do three police figures and police station in their streets of Hong Kong series.
