At John's request, here's a poll for the North African campaign. The poll is a multiple choice: you can vote for more than one thing. It's not yes or no.

Just for the record, Andy did make ONE (1) Panzer IV short barrel in Afrika Corps markings. It is depicted in the catalogue with the standing Rommel figure as a background for Rommel. He had one of his master paintes re-paint one of his gray polystone Panzer IV's in Afrika Corps markings. It came with a really wonderfully well painted Afrika Corps tank commander. I bought it years ago, and it sits in storage with the rest of my polystone stuff (I only have room to display the older wood, metal and resin vehicles, although I do display the more recent figures). One of these days, once I have sold my apartment and bought a house, I'll have the space to pull it out.

I don't know if we're talking about the same things but the two tanks that Andy has made for AK and which are still out there, III and IV, are very nice, some really great detailing. I haven't gotten around to getting them yet but I've been eyeing them and I predict that when they're retired they won't be cheap.

No Brad, I don't mean the regular production Afrika Corps tanks, a long barreled Panzer IV with extra turret armor and a Panver III special, both of which were produced in the hundreds. Andy made one short barreled Panzer IV for the background of the Rommel figure, and I emailed him about when he would be producing it, he said he wouldn't produce the short barreled Panzer IV as an Afrika Corps vehicle, but would sell me the "one off" he had, and I bought it in 1999 at then then unheard of price for a polystone vehicle of $350. Not a bad deal in retrospect.

Oh, know I see what you mean by one tank. Didn't realize you meant one only, thought you were talking about just making one type of tank for mass production. I'm probably being lazy but is that one off on the Sager's site?

Yes, the Afrika Corps Panzer IV short barrel is in the 2001 "Christmas 1944" Brochure, in the second photo down from the top under the listing for this brochure on Sager's Website.

Looks like someone brought this up and looks like we've gotten half of these. Not bad.

I'm surprised an 88 wasn't on the list. That's what I would have voted for. But the motorcycle combo and opel truck which I have are both great pieces.

I'm with you Kurt - the 88 is an iconic weapon of the desert war. We have the 25 pounder - where is the 88?

Ummm....no being cheeky mate, but can you please direct me to the nearest stockist of the 25 pounder that I would love to obtain?

Thanks
H

I paid too much for a 25 pounder on eBay, so have some sympathy for me H! $260ish, plus the exorbitant shipping that goes with sending anything south of the equator. I had to have one - every country town in my part of the world has one of these rusting away in a park. This weapon is a part of my childhood! Come to think of it, I could have probably bought an original for less than the K&C model ...

G'Day,
No offence mate, but $260.....???? You must've wanted one really BAAAAADLY.
Me myself, I think I'll just wait until it gets reissued.
$260....Sheesh.

H the H

There was ONE other consideration (i.e. other than wanting it badly) in deciding to purchase the 25 pounder at that price: the Australian dollar - US dollar exchange rate in 2002 (release year for the 25 pounder) was 0.53ish in favour of the USD, now 0.95ish, still in favour of the USD. What cost USD125 in 2002 was AUD 235. I paid AUD 270ish in 2008.:)

I wasn't collecting in 2002, and I don't know when the 25 pounder was retired (although the Australian dollar was awful for quite some time), so this was completely retrospective rationalisation for paying (as I said in my initial post) too much money. (i.e. this is part of how I explained it to my wife!)
