I had made this figure about 30 years back. Poniatowski was recorded as being short and hence I had shortened the legs. But when I added the harness accoutrements, the figure was perched quite high on the saddle. Since I had finished all the details then, I left it as it is.

However, with newly acquired skill sets, I think that it is timely that I redid his seat and generally refurbish the figure at the same time.
I carefully prised the figure off from the saddle and then with a dremel tool, I grinded the inner thighs and the saddle to make the figure seat lower.

The before and after pics show that I had lowered the figure by about half a cm which is about right to me. The figure is now covered in dust.

Hello Sandor and John,

Thanks for your inputs. That perched pose really bothered me for 30 years. Time to scratch that itch...:)

So you can't make an omelette without breaking a few eggs, right? Thankfully, the damage has been minimal so far. the figure of Poniatowski shows the extent of the grinding.

I noticed that I never modelled the tongue on the cantle so here it is. A simple drilled pin which is now being shaped with putty.

Finally repaired all the damaged bits. I sculpted some calves as Poniatowski has been depicted with fat calves. Added minor harness decorations.

I am now ready to repaint this piece and am thinking of painting a black horse as this is the most common depicted mount for Poniatowski.

Seing the colours of the horse, he is Poneytovski :)

I thickened the horse neck by a few mm at the top, then sculpted a new mane. A new horse tail was also added.

I painted the horse a dark black. I also managed to lower Poniatowski's seat by another mm and am now painting the figure.

I finally picked this piece up to work further on it. I had been stymied by the missing saddle tassels. Decided to sculpt my own and replaced these. Painted white socks and face markings to enliven a black horse. Started to repaint the face.

All tassels added. Repainting the piece, starting with the saddle lacing.
