At least he'll know what time is was.

Thats what they call a FARB isn't it? Unless the Austrians invented the wristwatch and just kept that to themselves for the next ninety years or so.

Funny that this photo is at a Czech French Imperial Guard photo page and that group looks GREAT. The Austrian was on the other side. When I did reenacting we had a wrist watch drill of having the group ground arms and raise their hands. Some of the best folks forget details like that after wearing a watch the other 5 days of the week.

Lucky for him (her?) that his face is hidden. Makes it hard to know who to blame.:)

Lucky for him, his fur hat didn"t catch on fire from all the sparks flying around.

When I was in the 10th Regt. of Foot in 1970s, the flash from the pan scorched my bearskin cap a couple of times. I made the mistake of "aiming" with my head too far forward instead of "presenting" when I fired. Maybe too much powder in the pan as well.

I shoot my right-handed flintlocks left-handed. Even with safety glasses on, sometimes I get sparks, pieces of flint, etc in my face and especially my right forearm. But I wouldn't give them up for anything, very relaxing shooting at the range.

It can be done with FLINT and cap locks but not in ranks.

My father was right handed but shot left handed in WW II.
