Really great movie on the Korea War, starring Greagory Peck and with some bit part played by :Rip Torn,George Peppard,Harry Guardino, the great Woody Strode, Robert Blake, Martin Landau , Gavin Macleod(Loveboat!),Harry Dean Stanton (Brain in Escape from NY).
the story:American GI's must retake a barren hill in Korea that has been overrun by Red Chinese troops. The ensuing battle becomes a meat grinder for American and Chinese alike.
What can i say..Lewis Milestone at his best..i think he made the best movie on WWI (All Quiet on the Western Front 1930 version) and on the Korea War (this) with great movies on the WWII (Halls of Montezuma, A walk in the sun).
The Milestone's films are really realistic..i like the scene in which a young soldier throw a bomb in a bunker and miss it, the bomb bounce back and explodes hurting him..it's really a great scene!!!

Have to agree with this assesment. This is one of my favorite war films and Milestone made some great films. An over looked classic being "The North Star", an early war Russo-German conflict film. Good call on "Pork Chop Hill". -- lancer

Pork Chop Hill was great. Almost forgot about it, which reminded me of another good movie called, None But The Brave, with Frank Sinatra.
