Hello,

I am selling most of my late father's Britains and other toy soldiers collection. Some of the Britains were bought in the 1930s which seems to bring a much better price than those made after the war. Is there any way to tell which ones I have are pre-war or not? An example would be set 117, Egyptian infantry. He has one box and two sets. One set has the officer pointing a pistol which means it was 1957-1959. The other has no officer but no idea which ones are which as they have been all put in the same box. No idea for sure if any are pre-war but it seems the box said 1939 or 1940 in it. To my less than keen eye, they all look the same save the officer. Any hints on figuring out which ones are older?

Yes. I recommend James Opie's "The Great Book of Britains", and Joe Wallis' "Armies of All Nations" and "Regiments of All Nations", as guides to identifying Britains hollowcast toy soldiers. Norman Joplin is another expert who has written some helpful books for identifying them.

Prost!
