I mainly collect American Civil War Figures mainly John Jenkins but I have been impressed by the new W. Britains releases. Usually the prices were roughly equal £1 = $1 but my usual vendors seem to be charging much more. I do not think the value of the Pound has dipped drastically . Would I be better ordering from the States direct? For example 31448 Confederate Officer marching is $48.00 on the W. Britain site I cannot find it cheaper than £56.99 in th U.K. That's $74.01 at the time of posting this thread.

Hi Jedburgh,

I use MKL mailorder in the UK. They are good to deal with. They notify you when the item is about to arrive in the UK. Order is posted out to you as soon as they have it in stock.

They offer a 10% discount on pre-orders (you don't have to pay until it is ready to ship). The figure you are looking for is retailing at a pre-order price of £51.30. Still dearer than the W. Britain site, but it is a bit cheaper compared to other UK vendors.

Hope this helps

Yeah most likely. Here at Sierra and the other companies in the U.S. we all charge $48, however, we all have varying prices on shipping charges. Might want to call around and check to see what the best rate you can get is.

UK RRP is £56.99 and cost price is £31.67 + vat so seems retailers are being a little greedy over here .

Yes Magpie does like to set their prices at the max, up until a few years ago they had competition in prices with a shop in Blackpool, but when they retired and shut their shop the prices have stayed high with that seller.
I only buy from them now when I have earned nectar points and it's a bit cheaper for me or ebay are running one of their 20% off promotions.
Though to be fair, if you contact them and ask they will often drop their asking price by 5% if you avoid buying through ebay. So a Win for them !

Not only Magpie - Bachmann has it at the same price. Will definitely look at MKL but probably wait and make a Transatlantic order.

I have been wondering whether i want to start a website selling W Britains as the retailers out there are charging top price . I have already got my successful Tank website . Just topped the £2m historical turnover so want something else to keep me busy . My only query would be whether to keep stock or use Bachmann as a virtual warehouse .

I’m sure Britain’s will be very pleased to see that their dealers are discounting.

Its all very pricey in the UK. Living in Australia was the best Normally free shipping over a certain amount, no US sales tax, no import duties and paying in $USD.

I struggle in the UK where prices seem high, VAT, import duties and little local competition.

You can also try TSRARE/Saimex, i buy from them quite often and deliveries come within a week, i tend to keep my orders at €250ish mark as they tend to get under customs charges

The cost of items outside the United States is always interesting, and sometimes frustrating for me to see. Unfortunately, we have no control on pricing at point of purchase outside of the Continental United States.
I should point out that Bachmann Europe has been our UK distributor for many years now. We do provide them with the Manufacturers Suggested Retail Price in U.S. Dollars, but they need to set their own rates based on their policies and that certainly is calculated into the prices your see with your retailers.
It is always worth considering purchasing items from various sources outside your immediate geographic locations as the internet has opened the world for trading, but always take care to calculate any shipping or VAT costs that may be added to the base cost of what you are considering to add to your collection.

As stated I am considering starting to sell WB product . I have a Bachmann UK account and wondered if there was an anti discount policy either from the mothership or Bachmann .
