Yo Troopers, Having trouble trying to buy boxes & insert cards for my Cavalry. My collecting aim is to get one of each Cavalry regiment from the 1800s. But Britains in their wisdom never did all the Cavalry regiments so I have to get them made special. The guy who makes them for me is good & they go well with the Britains types, but he doesn't do boxes to keep cost down. So come on you old soldiers where can I get boxes and insert cards. I could make insert cards from my modern Britains sets using them as a template but where can you buy the right type of card from, any ideas? Putting my head on chopping block here lol. I think the way Britains tied their sets in boxes from the 1940s to 1960s was really prehistoric, cotton and two staples. Come on we had elastic bands in the 1950s, I think they did it on purpose knowing the kids would just wreck the boxes to get the soldiers out, the soldiers get wiped out and they sell more. Be nice if someone did repro boxes any box is better than no box. At least Britains came good in the 1990s (took them long enough) by using the Treasury ties to tie soldiers to the insert card, very easy to take out and display, and easy to put back in box if you want to sell them. So if any of you guys can help with this, please let me know (you will get a mention in dispatches)

Bernard: The Old toy soldier home (web site - www.oldtoysoldierhome.com) in California sells repo red boxes that are the same size as Britains for both 5 piece cavalry and 8 piece infantry units. I do not know if they sell the inserts (tie cards) Good Luck.

When you go to their web site -- click under "old Britains" to see photos of the boxes.

Yo Trooper Dick, thanks for the info mate will have a look.
Hope the young guys are doing well.
Bernard.

Hello Bernard,

How about doing us a favor and providing the information for the man who is making the repros for you. I am interested in filling out some of my Squadrons and Troops and would be interested in his prices.

All the best

Dave

Yo Troopers, and Major "SIR", will come back to you later show you some stuff he has done for me, but they are £18.00 per figure. Good news is he told me yesterday he has boxes & lables mainly for bands, but would take five mounted, they are foam lined. But the lables only say Toy Soldiers, no regiment named, which is what I want. Watch this space.
Bernard.

Yo Trooper Dave, some of the items made for me, sorry the photo is not better, but havn't sorted new camera yet how to take a close up photo, from right to left is, Raglan, Lucan, Cardigan, Billy Britain, and one of the 4th French Chasseurs D'afriqe. They all stand fine just that they are on a soft table protector its like foam. Lets know what you think of them.
Bernard.

Hi Bernard,

I think those are great and hope the good folks at Britains will supply us with some similar sets especially of the Chasseurs. Very colourful to say the least. You friends castings are good looking and appear to be well painted so I think they are a good value at $36 per. Will have to keep it in mind for future sets.

All the best

Dave

Yo Trooper. Dave he sells on ebay, his shop is Clash of Arms, name is Peter Tring.
Bernard.

Bernard: Just wondering as a follow up - did you ever locate anyone who makes a decent box and tie card for your cavalry sets?

Yo Trooper, Dick my man, no luck with inserts a couple of dealers in the states do red boxes they are getting back to me. Did you see the one from Aussie on USA ebay selling four sets in repro boxes, they would do me, better to have a repro box than no box, what do you think Dick.
Bernard.
